Tamiya TBLE 02S

Recommended Posts

Hi all just a quick question the new DT03 come with the Tamiya TBLE02S esc. Can other makes of sensored motors be used with it or is it just Tamiya motors. Also what brands of sensored brushless motors would you guys recommend. I would be looking for something around the 10.5 turn mark.

Many thanks Steve.

I have one too and would be interested to hear what people recommend as I've yet to go brushless.

Looking for accessories I came across the official Tamiya cooling fan upgrade... it ain't cheap!

And Tamiya sensor cable (surely that should come with the ESC or motor)

They could at lease give you a cap to cover the sensor plug socket if it's not being used!

I've run mine as a standard brushed ESC with the kit silver can and it works fine BTW, (I followed the instruction to set it up brushed). I wonder can this ESC be used with a non-sensored brushless motor if you don't use the cable? And do sensored brushless motors all have a universal cable socket?

How does the fan work? Is it just a matter of plugging it into your receiver where the battery pack used to go for it to get power?

According to Tamiya it works with any TBLM-01S motor, and those go down to 10.5T. You should be safe using any brushless sensored motor 10.5T or higher.

Does it require a three channel radio set? I assume the fan is thermostatically controlled. You wouldn't want to switch it on and off manually so why would you need a spare channel I would have thought it would just require a power source.

You don't need an extra channel for the fan - it is just more convenient if you do have one spare, so you can plug it straight into the receiver.

If you don't, you can use a y-lead and run it off the same channel as a servo or ESC. All it needs is a power source, as you correctly point out.

Can't you just use the empty battery (BATT) slot?

For the record, I was unable get this to work with a sensor less motor. I'll be using silver can for racing and buy a 10.5 sensored motor for when I go to a track that's wide open like snetterton.

It's a random google image.

... but to counter, I have zero trouble with my AM equipment.

I have one of these and am a bit confused. Will it run a brushed motor and where is the battery out to power the radio gear?

Yes it's will run a mild brushed motor.

The receiver will get it's power from the channel 2 lead.

Ooooo that sounds great. I best put it all back together again. I assembled it, thought I was a lead missing and then took it all to bits again. Every day is a school day, many thanks

I have had 6 of these ESCs so far, and 2 have failed.

One lost all power to the rx lead and the other just flashes red really fast as soon as you do anything to it.

Anyone else had reliability issues?

Never had TEU101 fail.

got a similar amount, 2 in cars that get a lot of abuse one with a 23t brushed the other a 13.5 sensored motor all fine.

I even broke one by incorrectly plugging in the corrally connectors (Negative to positive etc). It popped, I opened it up, found the fuse and soldered it together and it's been working solidly in my race M05 and never missed a beat.

I think they are great.

I'm using a Neewer 13.5T sensored motor with the TBLE02S in my M-05 and it works beautifully. I think as long as it's a sensored brushless motor over 10.5T, you will be fine.

I'm just using silver cans in FF03s. Shame because I do like them. Hopefully the ones I have now will stay reliable.

Hello all,

Probably a daft question but can I use this esc with sizes other than what are stated in the specs, a 11.5t for example?

As long as it is a 10.5T sensored or greater, you should be fine.

Thanks steelo,

I was looking at one of these, which I assume is ok?

Forgot to ask, is this for onroad or offroad?

Maybe another member could give their input, but if this is for an onroad vehicle, I don't think you will have any problems with that ESC/motor. If it to be used in an offroad buggy/truck, I would go with a higher turn motor to be safe. I think the manual for the TBLE-02s ESC states it can be used for motors as low as 10.5T for onroad and 13.5T for off-road. You may want to take that into consideration...

I'm using the same ESC with a 13.5T motor in an onroad car and it hardly gets warm running on asphalt.

I run my WT-01 on an 02s and a 10.5t and not thermo'd it yet :-)

I think a lot comes down to gearing, rather than whether the car is being used on or off road. The instructions seem to be oversimplifying things a bit.

One of the nice things about modern ESCs is that they cut out when overheating, rather than frying completely. This means that you can experiment with gear ratios (chassis permitting obviously) and find the ratio that lets you complete a full run without thermalling the ESC.
