I'll get the popcorn on I have the 8x8 in the shed, cant wait to see your build for inspiration to get cracking on mine. I'm as pumped as you fellas ! But I'm waiting for somebody to get the Futaba Attack 4YWD 2.4 GHZ in stock !! Any leads ? Let me know ! Stay tuned, but the build won't start for a bit yet. May try to find a way to add the new RC4WD winch to the front but it seems to be a bit out of scale or big:
berman 5315 Posted March 22, 2014 Was eyeing up the 8x8 MAN but it's out of stock, I'm not sure the back tray would hold a Leopard 2a6 anyhow and I am not sure my fabrication skills are up to making one into a Rheinmetall HX-81 with elephant trailer lol Keep us posted, looks mighty impressive! bromvw 743 Posted March 22, 2014 How about mounting the winch behind the bumper with a fairlead exiting where the existing tow point is ? That's how the Military fit them . Just fit a second fairlead to the bumper . If you mount the winch upside down there should be enough room under the Cab and behind the bumper to get it to fit fairly well and it will mostly out of sight - and therefore neater IMO .
Tamiya1/10 382 Posted March 23, 2014 kind of wonder why tamiya cannot put out something similar to a 6x6 or 8x8 ages ago. it has has all the parts from its bin and is a plastic model company. i guess big and tough trucks are not well receive in japan or tamiya still beleives RC and Static kit should not mix. All Tamiya has to do is visit all the after market web selling and see what they are selling and get a good ideal what the trend is.
backtomyroots 432 Posted March 25, 2014 Good news - Ebay Seller got the Futaba 4YWD in stock - just ordered three ! Once that arrives I may be able to find time to crack it open. The RC4WD winch is big and beautiful, so I don't want it to hide in behind the bumper so I may grab a 3racing winch for that detail. Thanks for the suggestion bromvw ! bromvw 743 Posted March 26, 2014 No problem sir , its the logical place to mount it as well as being 'correct' on a Military truck
backtomyroots 432 Posted March 26, 2014 No problem sir , its the logical place to mount it as well as being 'correct' on a Military truck Ironically, I was in the Military for 5 years . That begs the next question, what's the best Tamiya colours for a desert paintjob for this baby - say if it was deployed to Afghanistan on "Tour" ?

bromvw 743 Posted March 26, 2014 Ok if you want it Afghanistan correct you need to go with a one colour Desert Tan . XF 59 is very close . Many think that the Chip Cookie pattern was used in the Desert - but it never was . It was tried but proved to be a complete disaster - you stuck out like a boil on a backside . Keep it simple with maybe just a few camo nets to break the outline and its how it was / is done .

I'm thinking all "monochromatic" scheme no real camo pattern per say other than some flat black here and there say on the bumpers. Since the only painting I can do is "one colour jobs" anyway ! It's what you would get with a cross between a king hauler and a high lift. Like my 6x6, but better engineering and much better scale detail.
backtomyroots 432 Posted April 6, 2014 Just arrived in the mail: Futaba Futaba Attack 4YWD Radio/ReceiverJust Ordered from RC4WD: Junfac Punisher Driveshafts Kong Winch Hook Just Ordered from Stellamodels: 3Racing WinchThe kit includes black plastic driveshafts but also some hideous red ones which I believe are stronger ones - must be a durability problem with the originals in the kit. Progress at least .

backtomyroots 432 Posted May 10, 2014 Electronics programmed (though still not sure it's right ! - I hate that MFC Unit programming). Already been to the LHS and picked up a smaller hump back receiver nimh pack to power the winch separately. Will replace the Tamiya included 3mm LEDS with 5mm LEDS as the kit included ones are all 5mm and the lenses are sized as such. Stellamodels is now selling the Cross-RC sound unit and speaker at a very reasonable price, if I hadn't aready purchased the MFC I would be snatching it up, looks good. So, here's the electronics all programmed and tested:
berman 5315 Posted May 11, 2014 Awesome that you are finally starting it I also had a bit of trouble setting the MFC03 up. Stella has done a video of all three setups for the unit and posted it on youtube to help us out. https://www.youtube.com/user/stellamodels Looking forward to your progress!
