Drowned receiver resuscitated

Recommended Posts

Was out playing with a Fighting Buggy yesterday, in slightly damp conditions and, somehow, a small amount of water made it's way into the receiver and killed it (temporarily)

At home, I cracked open the receiver and rinsed out the drops of water with fresh tap water and put the circuit board into a poly bag with some rice (Gallo Arborio Rice if it helps) for 24hrs in the hope the rice would absorb any moisutre.
Tonight, the RX works again :)

Seen this suggested for dunked mobiles before now, but never tested it

i think you were having too good of a time to stop or you were competing for the longest roostet tail with a buggy.

I did something similar several years ago with clean water. Just open up the elsctronics , drained the water and hair dry it for several minutes, let dry for about a day, put it back together and everthing works. :)

I'm a great believer in receiver boxes.

I have a lovely Kyosho one on my CC-01 that fits so well it could have been designed for the chassis.

Dorvack.

i've found that a TIC Tac box works quite well as a receiver box . Just pop the receiver in it , pass the cables through the flip flap and seal it with a blob of silicon - works well

Give it a spray down with corrosionX covering it all with a coat let the excess dip off put it back in the casing and it's good to go under water!!

I think a better way than rice is to clean it with technical alcohol or similar. If even a small amount of water remains trapped under a chip, it will corrode pretty fast.

Motor cleaner followed by hair dryer on medium heat works too. But rice is a nice "green" way to do it.

Makes you feel good to fix something you thought might be dead, doesn't it?
