DeBruce 27 Posted January 31, 2016 Hello all, I am trying to restore a Tamiya Astute that I have, back to original condition and remove the Madcap upgraded suspension arms and hubs. Whilst I know these are upgrades for runners, I want this car to be original in all it's flawed glory. However I have now found out the C parts tree is rare as hems teeth. Does anyone have this tree available? Of course I need two sets to complete both sides which makes it even more unlikely I can find them. Used parts would also be find as long as they aren't broken. If anyone has the old hubs that they removed to replace with madcap parts then that would be fine. Basically any way I can get hold of these C tree parts, I'm interested! Alternatively if anyone has an astute with original arms and suspension setup that they would consider selling let me know. Thanks, Share this post Link to post
kontemax 1725 Posted January 31, 2016 Welcome to the club. I believe that you will find here, with a patient wait, the parts you need. Max Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted January 31, 2016 Thanks Max, I hope so, although I know how rare these C parts trees are. As I said, used parts would be fine! Rob Share this post Link to post
Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted January 31, 2016 You might be in for a long wait on those Astute C parts... I did a new build Astute from spare parts about 6 years ago - I started collecting the parts for it around 2005 and the C parts where probably one of the hardest to find. Share this post Link to post
pUs 311 Posted February 1, 2016 Not that rare actually, there's a set on ebay right now. Not cheap though, but the parts are available.. Share this post Link to post
Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted February 1, 2016 I can only see C parts for a Super Astute - not the same. Share this post Link to post
pUs 311 Posted February 1, 2016 Oh, sorry. My bad. Thought I read "D"-parts, of which there's one tree available... Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 1, 2016 Tamiyabigstuff I think you might be right. To be honest I'm not holding out much hope and it's worse because I need two trees to get both sides. As I said, I'll also use used parts if anyone has the hub assemblies and failing that I'm also on the look out for complete astutes and I might turn my car into a vintage runner since it has the madcap conversion which is better for running anyway. Just that for a shelfer, I want it in its original over-engineered glory! Share this post Link to post
t3garett 268 Posted February 2, 2016 Hello there being a big astute super astute fan myself I think I have the parts your are looking for in my parts bank. I run 2 super astutes (one brushless) an astute and a madcap regularly. Send me an pm with a list of what you need (c parts and all others and screws if you need) and I ll have a look at what I ve got left. Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 2, 2016 OMG! To be clear It's the original Astute, not super astute parts I require. I'll put together a list and PM you but the big one really is the C parts trees, two off! If you have these trees my mind will melt! 😊 Share this post Link to post
Thommo 1217 Posted February 3, 2016 I can help out with 2 x C4 parts. These are the upright part of the rear hub. They would be coming from Aussie but let me know if you can't find anything closer to home. The C2 part is the one that cracks if you look at it too hard so that is the uber rare part. I've already dished out all of my C2 parts to other members, even the cracked ones... Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 5, 2016 Thommo thank you for the offer. Do you have any of the other C tree parts? C1 ND C3? Share this post Link to post
Thommo 1217 Posted February 6, 2016 I found some more, so I have 1 x C2 (hairline crack) 1 x C3 (used) 2 x C4 (new) There is some other hardware that makes up those rear hubs. Can you post some pics up on here of what you have ? Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 6, 2016 Brilliant, can I get those parts from you - PM me your price. On the C2 where is the hairline crack and is it usable? Could it be glued so it can be run gently (e.g. On an indoor floor). T3garett is helpful me with other parts and a lot I can get from eBay, etc, but it's the C tree plastics that are almost mythical so if I can get these from you, that's the priority. I have the manual so I'm working through all the parts I need using that. I also have. I also have a base car which has the madcap front and rear suspension setup fitted. Also I already have two B parts trees so I have the front and rear arms I need. The bit I still really need (with all the offers I have) is one more C1 piece, if anyone can help? Or another complete front hub assembly. Thank you! Share this post Link to post
Thommo 1217 Posted February 7, 2016 OK, I'll show mine if you show yours ! These are all used parts. The C2 part has the crack top centre but it's too fine to see in this pic. This part was cracked in most Astute's that were running around. Bad design and brittle plastic. I'll find out postage and get back to ya. Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 7, 2016 OMG I just had a partgasm! Those bits look awesome - PM me the price you want and postage! I'll try to take a pic of the car as it is so far and post it up. Share this post Link to post
Snappy1 966 Posted February 7, 2016 Nice one DeBruce, Are you interested in parting with your current shell? Share this post Link to post
DeBruce 27 Posted February 7, 2016 Hey snappy - unfortunately it's cracked / split in a couple of places at the front where the front mounting post pokes through so I don't think you'd be interested in it. Share this post Link to post
Thommo 1217 Posted February 7, 2016 Wow, she looks like a Gem ! Hardly run by the looks of her and that body is great. Thanks for posting the pics. Share this post Link to post
Thommo 1217 Posted February 8, 2016 Here is a new set of front C hubs for ya. The Super Astute had this instead but it's the same part. Already in the UK too. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tamiya-58097-Super-Astute-Servo-Stay-Bag-9405682-NEW-/310356545586?hash=item4842b11032:g:P5EAAOSw-jhUGVLE Share this post Link to post
