Wild Willy 2 - don't want it to wheelie, options?

Recommended Posts

As title chaps - really fancy a Wild Willy 2 - don't want it to wheelie, options?

Also I picked up a cheap (or I think it was cheap!) Lunchbox last week as well and not into wheelies but like the look!

I read somewhere adding weight to the front of the chassis with stop it doing wheelies?

Or is the best option to get a different chassis for off roading/beach and grass running?

Picked up a genuine Hummer too so getting back into scale rc after a break for a few years.

Thanks!

Buy the MF-01x, build it XS and get a Willy body and some 1.55 offroad wheels. There's your no wheelie 4wd Willy

Perfect - knew somebody would know what chassis it would fit.

I'll add some weight to the lunchbox and see how I get on.

what I do with mine is I relocate the ESC way up front stick tape it right on the steering servo , It won't stop it from doing wheelies but any weight up front helps and you can use the 20 tooth pinion to give it less power off the line.

Another way of doing it if you have a TX with adjustable channel speed is to reduce the speed of the throttle channel so that acceleration is reduced to just below the point at which the front wheels lift. I did that with my WR-02G and DX4S, and it works a charm.

Perhaps you could use a rock crawling trick, and fit some lead mag wheel weights, or some fishing sinkers threaded on a wire around the front wheels to weigh the front down.. Just make sure that you fit the weights evenly around the wheel so as to keep it balanced..

This should give you an idea of what I mean..

At least that way wont require you to upgrade the spring rates to handle the extra weight up front..

Good idea - I could tape some lead weights around the whole wheel?

Good idea - I could tape some lead weights around the whole wheel?

When I weighted the wheels on my crawler, I used fishing sinkers.. I threaded them onto a piece of 1mm (approx.) galvanized garden tie wire, then wrapped them around the wheel, and twisted the ends of the wire together to keep them secure..

If you need to add or remove some weight, just cut the wire and start again.. When I had finally decided on what weight that I needed/wanted to run in each wheel, I threaded the sinkers onto a fresh piece of wire, then temporarily wound the wire around the wheel to evenly space the sinkers on the wire, then laid the wire and sinkers out on some concrete and gave each sinker a tap with a hammer which slightly squashed each sinker, crimping it in place on the wire so it wouldn't move.. Then I wrapped the wire around the wheel and twitched it into place..

More details, please!

Genuine Tamiya M1025 Hummer, saved from eBay!

Plan is to restore it back to a Gulf War looking Hummer.

I have ordered a new body from Japan as this has a crack in it - may be salvaged though.

Mcfarlane .50 cal and gunner on it way from the states.

More to follow in a build thread!

Maybe... :)

I love Tamiya Rc tanks and have had four in the past.

Currently have a Sherman in 'Fury' mode

I have a ww2 sitting on a shelf, waiting for inspiration. Had one a little over ten years ago. Never went off road. Thinking this will be the same way. I'm not worried about stopping wheelies, but want it to actually handle on the street.

With some judicious trimming, you can flip the wheelie bar upside down to limit wheelie height. With enough power, though, it can induce some hilarious, yet destructive shenanigans.

With a pretty body I'd be worried about it getting scratched!!

That's what I love/hate about the Willy. The body. So nice, so delicate, so not available in lexan

One of my runner WW2 drivers likes to carry an old motor around on his front bumper. Not the most elegant solution, but it does the trick... :D

You could probably use some of the flat/plate weights or tungsten putty we use on Pine Wood Derby cars for the Cub Scout races....
