vintage pricning questions.

Recommended Posts

I met a guy locally yesterday that is selling off his collection and its huge , basically a storage unit full of cars parts and everything in between , I went there with the idea of purchasing a few cars but am unsure what I should be offering him for them , I will list off what he has that im keen on.

1 new built madcap built to box art no hopups comes with std futaba radio dusty but in great condition?

2 runner madcap no body few scuffs on the chassis but he has a new body and decals all genuine.

3 bearhawk runner rough body some small bit missing but other wise stock.

4 top force runner no body all electronics in good condition.

5 falcon runners has about 5 from average condition to poor but complete.

6 wild willy 4 of them in various stages of life all have no bodys but are mostly complete.

7 hotshot all vintage ranging from new build to rough has roughly 25 of them lol

8 astute runner good condition will probs need a new body wheels and tires and undercowl .

he also has a number of new in box kits too the ones im interested in are the boomerang and thunderdragon , both are in bot the dragon is in excellent condition but the boomer is a different story its complete but it was used to fix another car then the parts were replaced so to keep it nib is pointless I would build it for sure.

so I tried to do a deal but basically he wants me to spend around a min of $1k on cars parts and acc's which im working on atm but im clueless what a good offer is for these cars is

also whats a price going for a nip dynatech 02h and a technigold also nip??

if there is somewhere I can be directed for these prices that would be great too :)

With all that you have listed there, 1000$ would be a steal. I would jump on it for sure :o

I wouldn't hesitate to drop a grand on that, and then wear the brunt from the Mrs , smiling

Buy the lot for the big large one, no problem. Then closely inspect the cars and parts, keep what you want from the lot and then sell the rest, but don't do it as a lot. That way I can assure you'll end up having that nice set of cars and replacement parts for nothing. And actually, after doing that I believe it's highly probable that you might also be able to get a little extra cash to sport on your pockets there ;)

What new built hotshots does he have? Any mk1 there with the 3 holes?

A standard new built is probably worth $300 UD. A mk1 much more than that but again depends on the condition.

1k is a minimum spend plus he wanted 350 just for the new build madcap.

Its mental the amount of cars he has especially hotshots.. i didnt get time to check for mk1 but he is clued in on prices but i think he wants top dollar for even runners.

That amount of money will not get me those cars i listed i need a realistic price for them so i can offer him a fair price for the cars. Does anyone have an idea what these cars are worth? I dont think i would get them all for 1k as he said he was chasing around 20k for the entire collection and isnt interested in selling singular cars which is a pain.

A few of the cooler nib are a 6 wheeler and a swb wild willy and around 10 new built bruisers. ..

New built madcap probably 250-300usd

Runner madcap 120-150 usd

Bearhawk 80usd

Top force with no body 80usd

Falcon average condition 100usd

Wild willy no body 120-200 usd

Astute 130-150usd

Hotshot new.built 300usd

Hotshot runner 100-150usd depending on condition

Im just guessing here.

Have a look and see if he has any mk1s

We were talking about mk1s and he knows about them but he has that many it would take hours to go through them all.

The thing is his selling strategy is odd ,he has advertised as a bulk sell be then has pull some of the nib kit aside to sell separately, i can understand that he has 30 years worth of gear but to me its not being advertised properly and he wants the upper mark in pricing .

For example last year i bought an original manta ray new built with box instructions all in top condition for $250 aud and this guy wants $350 for a new built madcap with no box or instruction basically car only.

If anyone else has ideas on pricing in all ears

Kasparov's prices are pretty much what I would pay, it appears he wants pre rerelease prices for everything.

He will also have to realise that Australia isn't the UK or US with huge populations and he will not get those crazy prices

Its like hes forced to sell but still wants top dollar. Also forgot he has multiples of avante and egress atleast 1 of each nib probably 2 new build and atleast 3-4 runners of both what sort of money should be offered as im unfamiliar with the platform.

Also spied a ff01 civic in very average condition along with a few ta01/02 ,whats the going rate for them also.

Thanks for all the input so far guy

I used to manage Australia's largest single storey storage facility, he will be paying alot for the storage cost's, I think he is trying to add some of that cost into the prices he is charging

Hes is selling as moving overseas. Wouldnt sell his thunderdragon as said too expensive to send to sydney as costs too much even though i offered to pay for packaging. The truth is he didnt want to sell for the price listed on gumtree got greedy.

Hes a little weird, puts a clodbuster on gumtree for $480 nib, then a few months later puts the same nib on ebay for $899n neither sell.

I recon its the same guy , he told me he sold that clod to a guy in the us for $999....

he put the thunder dragon on gumtree for $270 so yesterday I offered the money and he said no I can get more on ebay... it took me over a week just to get a time to meet ,would discus prices at all.

this is why I want to arm myself with prices first if he don't like them ill walk!

Pretty sure this is all listed again, the lot on gumtree $12,000, the lot on Ebay $14,000, looking at it it is probably worth it, but you need lots of storage space and a lot of time on your hands, it is more like a retirement project

He has put it all back on gumtree for 12k i havent seen it on the bay yet but he is still trying to sell the nib kits seperately ,if you had the coin it would be well worth it ,from what ive seen you wouls be busy for a long time either that or it be a killer collection but with a lot of doubles but i guess you could sell off what you dont want

This guy sounds like a tool, lol... I doubt he'd ever do a deal that ended up being in your favor. Snag a NIB or two from Kalfakis, that guy is a gem.

People who list massive collections, in one heap, for massive prices.

Chances of someone who:

1. Actually has the money, and

2. Actually wants them, and

3. Actually wants them right now, and

4. Actually lives right nearby, and

5. Actually has the means to transport them, and

6. Actually has the means to store them.

It reminds me of the Drake Equation.

You know, the one about the number of likely aliens in space, who might be able to communicate with us, right now.

1. The fraction of formed stars that have planets, and

2. The number of planets that can potentially support life, and

3. The fraction of those planets that actually develop life, and

4. The fraction of planets bearing life on which intelligent, civilized life has developed, and

5. The fraction of these civilizations that have developed communications, and

6. The length of time over which such civilizations release detectable signals

No aliens yet. No buyers yet.

Hahahahhhaaaaaaa on the drake equation thats hilarious!

I have dealt with this guy several times and have not liked the experience.

He puts 14000 on ebay yet wont list the product? Whay the badword. How am i meant to know what im paying for? Or to do a rough evaluation? Cant belive he's that lazy.

Yes it probably would be worth the money if you restored and resold.

I went and met with him ,you have a better idea from someone overseas than this guy,i mean he wants you to buy his collection but is still advertising kits.

tell me how that is fair .for a collection of his size you gonna need a real big trailer and real understanding wife lol, mine said no for some reason...
