kontemax 1725 Posted April 21, 2014 Hi mates, Somewhere on the club I've seen some Hot Shot chrome wheels. I would like to have something different for my Super Sabre and this could be the right choose. I own many gold wheelsets. Can I turn one of them into chrome wheels? How? WillyChang 1814 Posted April 21, 2014 I suspect the new gold wheels are chromed then painted with clear yellow, not gold chromed like old. Haven't tried yet but if you can remove the yellow paint without damaging the chrome, that would be good. Try a solvent to dissolve the paint. Old Hotshot wheels world survive acetone, have not tried with new. Don't use anything caustic (soda or ovencleaner) as that eats chrome faster than paint. kontemax 1725 Posted April 21, 2014 I own several vintage gold plated wheelsets and would like to turn one set to chrome that I suppose it's cheaper than a new alloy set Max What about some polished alloys from rcloverr on ebay
kontemax 1725 Posted April 21, 2014 I suspect that also vintage sets are chromed and then laquered. They are identical to re-re gold wheels and I remember I tried to clean my vintage Fox wheels with lemon dish soap and the gold laquer became lighter.I didn't continue to wash them obviously but maybe someone did it.Anyone's experience? SteveU30 1011 Posted April 21, 2014 Hi Max, it might be worth sending this guy a message as it looks like he was a main source for all things Tamiya chrome plated a while back judging by this thread and his trades section: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41470 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=71850&id=4964 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/trades.asp?id=4964
