  1. I went ahead and bought the Tamiya adapters where I found that I have a plethora of choices for rear wheels and tires. However, I'm having problems trying to find matching front wheels here in the US. Tower Hobbies does not carry anything. Can someone point me in the right direction where I can find matching front and rears for my Brat? I'm looking for aftermarket wheels and not the stock wheels. The Front wheel shafts will accommodate any wheel with a 5mm bearing. The bearings on my stock wheels are 5x11. The Rears with the adapter will accommodate and 12mm Hex set up.
  2. Being a HUGE '80-'83 Toyota 4x4 fan, I always wanted a Toyota Bruiser from the 80's but the price tag was a bit out of reach for an unemployed 13 year old. Then, the Mountaineer was introduced several years after I was out of the RC game. Now, the used vintage Bruisers and Mountaineers are going for 3 to 4 times their original price and it's near impossible to find an unbuilt NIB kit. For me, I enjoy building from scratch. So, my only option is the Toyota Hilux High Lift. I really don't care for the smaller tires and the higher ground clearance. Here are my questions about this kit: 1) Does this kit come with real working lights or is it an option? 2) Can I buy bigger tires and wheels to make it look like a Mountaineer or Bruiser? Do the the tires/wheels of the Mountaineer/Bruiser fit this vehicle? 3) Will I have to lower the body to some degree in order to get the Mountaineer/Bruiser look? 4) What is the wheel base and can I install other truck bodies on this vehicle? 5) Will it be cheaper to just buy the body and buy some other kit to fit the body? I know of someone who is selling the entire body by itself for $175...
  3. I have the original Brat from the 80's and would like to see what my options are in regards to buying aftermarket wheels and tires. I got some ideas from a recent post titled "Frog Tires". Here are two adapters that I found. The first link describes an adapter from Tamiyausa. The other adapter (see pics) is an item on Ebay. Which is better? Also, what can I use for the front wheels? I appreciate any pics and detailed mods. My local hobby shop obviously does not have these parts and they told me to go online. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53913 I also found this on Ebay: #4121 Allows the use of a greater variety of tires. Fiberglass filled Yellow nylon. Use wheels with the tamiya 4 -pin style mount system - INCLUDES - 2 - Wheel hubs APPLICATION: Vintage Tamiya Lancia Rally, Subaru Brat, Frog, Grasshopper, Hornet, Fast Attack Vehicle, Wild One, Blackfoot, Monster Beetle, Mudblaster, Vanessa's Lunchbox, Midnight Pumpkin, Falcon, Striker, World Engines Rockbuster, Panda Cyclone and others with a similar axle
  4. Here's a pretty sick plate job courtesy of member deejay1711. If you're still interested in the chrome look, try emailing him about how he plated his chassis and rims. From the pics, it looks off the hook...
  5. Hi bonkett, Thanks for your response and experience with these motors. I'm definitely leaning towards the sport tuned motor. However, I'm sure there are other motors out there that offer a 30% - 50% increase in speed without making it too crazy with speed and torque. I just want something that's definitely noticeable, save me from making any additional mods, and won't tear many tranny apart. Hope someone can recommend something a little faster than the sport tuned... Brandon
  6. I currently have a stock 540 on my Brat. After calling Tamiyausa today, they mentioned that the transmission or gear ratio can't be adjusted and my motor is a 27 turn 0 degree motor. If I was to upgrade, he also mentioned to stay with a stock 27 turn motor with a higher angle of degree which will increase speed. My local hobby shop mentioned the same thing and actually recommended to stay with Tamiya motors that are sport tuned? I've never bought an upgraded motor before and so I would like recommendations that are maybe under the $75 range. I'm not sure what my options are since I'd like to increase the speed of my Brat. I currently have an LRP Runner Plus Reverse ESC that will handle 15 turns and a 4500mah 6 cell battery. Here's a Tamiya Sport Tuned Motor?: Here's are pics of Tamiya RZ and TZ Super Stock Motors. Does anyone have experience these?: Brandon
  7. I just upgraded my Brat with the hop-up Team CRP front shock towers with Yeah Racing shocks. However, there's NO room for the original anti-sway bars to be re-installed since the shocks are in the way. Will I see a big difference in performance if I leave the sway bars off? How important/functional are these sway bars anyway? If I should try installing them back on, does anyone have any ideas? You can see the front sway bars on this frog: Here's a pic of member deejay1711's car with the same Yeah Racing shocks (he obviously left them off):
  8. Credit goes to Live Steam Mad for originally posting this video. I'm about the same age as Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster) and remember watching this show as a kid. However, I'm not sure if this played in England or Europe. The Race starts around 2:39:
  9. That's a sick chassis deejay1711!!! Is that chrome paint?? If so, how is it holding up? I may take my Brat apart and do the same thing. Can you give me tips on how you painted the chassis??
  10. Most definitely Corona Powered. Still waiting for my shocks to come in as well as some other parts. I also picked up a Lexan Body to use when I'm running the car which will allow me to save my original resin model body for the shelf. Thanks for posting the pics of your "extreme modded" Brat. One of the best Brats I've ever seen!! I'd to get some tips from you as far as where you bought your parts and how you modified/fabricated your tranny, suspension, and frame. Thanks again...
  11. Thanks. Are there any aftermarket wheels out there that fit the Brat without any mods? I'm not a huge fan of the stock wheels and tires. The tire and wheel combo that terry.sc posted are pretty nice....
  12. My original tires are warped or have a distinct "flat spot" from sitting on a flat surface for several years. However, I can definitely reuse the wheels. What size wheels and or tires will fit the original Subaru Brat? I really like the Pajero wheels and BFGoodrich tires that are being sold on ebay. Will these fit? If not, do I need to get any special hubs or buy a particular size wheel or tire set? I'm looking to run my Brat mostly on pavement and sometimes dirt. Not interested in the huge, oversized monster tires. Just something that compliments the scale size of this vehicle. I appreciate any tips and recommendations. Thanks, Brandon
  13. I appreciate and thanks to all for your responses. Hey HunterZero, I just purchased both pairs of Yeah Racing Dampers on ebay (60mm & 80mm). It wasn't cheap, $50 US which included shipping and insurance. The auction for the 60mm shocks included two pairs where I only needed one. The seller wasn't willing to sell just one pair and so I went forth with the auction. I guess I'll try selling this extra pair of 60mm Yeah racing dampers on here when they are delivered. Anyone interested? If you go to ebay and search for Yeah Dampers 60mm, you can see the shocks. Model (DP-1003TI) TeamCRP finally responded and mentioned that 55mm shocks is the length I should look for. Yeah Racing also sells 55mm shocks and was just wondering why everyone is buying the 60mm... I assume TeamCRP is incorrect with their measurements or 60mm is a better fit.
  14. Does anyone sand the inside of their Lexan bodies before painting or is this a bad idea? I'm thinking that sanding will allow for a better surface for the paint to adhere. However, will sanding show the scratches from the sand paper after it's painted?? I know I'm supposed to wash the inside of the body with warm water and dish detergent and then wipe/air dry before painting. Also, is it better to cut the edges of the lower body (wheel wellls) to the desired shape before or after painting? Lastly, I bought Testors brand acrylic spray paint in the can. Is this good paint for polycarbonate bodies? Won't crack if the body flexes a little?
  15. I just picked up a brand new Brat lexan body with decals and extra mounts on ebay. The seller was selling two body kits and I ended up buying the 2nd and last one. Although, I'm here on the west coast, US. I believe the seller was from the US as well. Good luck with your search in the UK or Europe.
