Recommended Posts

Can someone please let me know if these 05 module DF03 pinions are steel or not ?

Appreciate any hints or links to 05 mod steel pinion 23t > 26t.

Thanks Gents

Thanks Max, there are plenty available closer to home for me but no listings mention steel.

I was worried they might be made out of grey chalk like the AV pinions

All Super Astute pinion gears are made of steel for sure.

Teeth numbers from 18T to 23T.

DF-03 pinion gears are 25T, 26T, 27T, 29T, 32T.

Missing pinion gear 24T, 28T, 30T and 31T don't know why.

If there's an alloy pinion gear of this series it could be the 29T and 32T but I'm not sure about it. I believe they are all made of steel.

Cheers Max,

Parts arrived today and indeed they are steel, passing the magnet test. I got the set listed in the title so that is the 23t and 25t set. Now just hoping that the 25t fits without filing the motor mounting plate (Super Astute that is).

I understud your problem.

I had it also, the lack of pinion gear choice on the Super Astute.

probably you have a mild motor, right'

Super Astute wants very hot motors (12T, 10T brushed or less) and the gear ratio remains a little bit too high.

This depends by the fact that the car is vintage and made for vintage tracks that were slower than modern track.

I solved the problem, at thet time, by changing the spur gear teeth and allowing the use of pinions 48p.

Have a look at this:

and this:

Fortunately now, with the DF-03, there's more pinoin choice.

I believe that 0,5 module is a great module, not too big, not too smal.

I don't understand why Tamiya doesn't use it often and doesn't give a better pinion choice.

Ha ha Max, this thread has become a PM. I knew you would be onto it !

Spot on Mate, I'm thinking of starting with a GT Tuned which is only a 19000 rpm motor so very similar to a Technigold.....slow. I also have the original 53081 set with steel 20t and 21t NIP so I can run just about any motor in this thing now. Sticking to brushed so I would love to eventually run an Acto pink motor some day.

Still more parts coming so I can reveal it as a project soon, can't wait !

This thread is for the best ones only eheheh!!!

Anyway Acto pink is a great motor. I ran it with a Dyna Storm with 1:10 of gear ratio. It was fast!

I believe the best motor for the SA is a 12 turns brushed or equivalent brushless.

Can't wait to see your project. I retired the Dyna Storm but I'm thinking to go back to the Astute.
