[Wanted] futaba FP-T 2F Battery Holder

Recommended Posts

I came across a futaba fp-t 2f radio but the battery holder was missing (I think it's either 7 or 8 cell).

Does anyone out there have one to sell? Or possibly the whole unit?

Thanks!

I had one and wanted to sell the radio with a vintage car, but when I put batteries in to test the function the holder crumbled to pieces. Pretty sure that is why so many of these handsets died - because the battery holders all broke and became unobtainable.

Hope you find one.

Good point!

Yeah, I've been watching the Bay but man... the prices are up to $150+ shipping for a radio + gear (no box)

They're cheap. You can get you a dozen here:

:)

Edit: I have to FP-t 2F radios here. And they use 8 or 7 cells. One of the battery holders have an extra adaptor in it, some small black bit so you can omit one cell, but it doesn't work good with only seven cells.

The Radio lead end that comes off my FP-t 2F is orange and has a 3 prong male end.

I assume the female end is the battery pack?

The battery packs on that website take a 9v style adapter no?

Both of these I have have 9v style adapters that go to a cable with the female older Futaba plug. I'm sure you can find those too to complete them if your radio doesn't have it.

Try running down to you local Radio Shack, they sell the battery pack that holds 8 AA cells. Here is a page link:

http://www.radioshack.com/radioshack-8-aa-battery-holder/2700407.html#prefn1=productType&q=battery%2Bholder&prefv1=AA&start=8

If that don't work for you, there is a couple of numbers like Model:270-407 and also Catalog 2700407, very similar to each other. At $2.50, not a bad deal and Erich was right, you will need a 9V "cover" to then wire up to a female G plug from wherever you can find a spare. The old orange colored plugs were refered to as G plugs and a lot of stuff is still out there, but you will want one that has only TWO wires coming out of it and it will have to be sacrificed to make a splice since I haven't found anything from Futaba on a part number for that part that connects the battery tray/holder to the radio itself. You could also have a look at finding an old NiCd battery, part number NT-8CG on my example here. I can't say that they are common to find, but you might get lucky and someone selling off some old RC equipment might list it in their description. Just remember, the battery will probably be useless at this age, but it is a neat bit of history and such to have as a display item.

I have a lot of work in catagorizing my old Futaba stuff and I am not much farther along in figuring out ages of stuff, but I am still trying.

Thanks for the response Crash!

Yeah, I think going the route you mentioned might be my best bet.

Not Bad if you don't have a Radio Shack nearby with them in stock, but don't buy too many if you have some of the brown box radios. I don't want to get nit picky and Erich was right, the 8 cells work better, but for authenticity, there were the brown boxes as I call them(metal case) that used only a 7 cell holder. There was a dummy cell in the holder permanently attached. If it is for using them, go for these 8 cell as long as they have the 9V battery type connections exposed on the ends. These also will work in the Mk1 Pistol grip radios from Futaba and I have found a few other makes that these work in as well. I really need to shoot some photos of my radio gear and post them up before long.

I have a few of the 9v wire leads that I'm going to have to splice in place of the original 3-prong connector. Had to do that to the vintage wheel radio, but If I want it to be functional... not really an option.

And I'm still going to take some pics of those old radios for you to check out, I'd love to know what you think of them.

I will be ready when you get them, no worries. If you are going to splice, you can buy the 9V "patch" cord, but you will also need to find the female orange plug to then connect the battery holder to the radio without hacking the male orange lead off. Let me see if I can find what I am talking about. I didn't find it at Radio Shack, but essentially DON"T DO THIS, but it is the plastic cap and the two wires coming out of like a toy or smoke alarm from the 9V battery and they you simply splice that to the Orange Female lead for the Futaba.

Yeah, that's the problem... I can't find that female orange plug that will accept the 3-pronged male end coming off the radio :(

I would hate to hack off the orange male plug from the radio, but I can't find and darn female orange plugs!

Actually... it looks like I found something that will work.

It's a G plug extension that I can use/cut...

Prices are about $8-$10 each though.

Is this it?

Yep, those are a stand it and you just need to lose the white wire if that is the way you go. Scour eBay for some misc wires and your price might drop considerably. LOL You found some on Walmart.com, that place is such a joke, you really can't find what you want to go pick up at the store so much anymore now that they will lead you to a place to sell you anything under the sun.

Don't give up, it will pay off in the end as it won't be much of a long wait and you don't want to upset the integrity of the old gear for such an easy fix. Trust me, it will keep the value in the old radio if you keep it as intact as possible. I too have searched for the small bits to complete a set or just make one work. I think the hardest bit to find on the old gear is the lead that plugs into the radio to use the battery charge window when checking the RX battery pack, THAT little ****** is hard to find by itself.

Hey Christian. I found that I have a few too many spares of the 9V "cap" so I can send you a couple just tell me where to.

Thanks so much for the offer! Super nice of ya!

However, I actually received 4 of these same connectors in my last eBay purchase of a car :)

It was a pleasant surprise! Ya never know what you are going to get in some of those mystery RC boxes

Yep, it's like Christmas sometimes on the mystery boxes. Good start, now for just the orange plug ends.

Well, a man with a plan, sounds like you will be up and running soon.

I also got a pleasant surprise in the mail yesterday. Picked up an FP-T 2F vintage wheel radio off eBay for $25 shipped. I sent the seller 2 messages inquiring about the battery holder and whether or not it was still present (his pics were vague).

He never even responded and I won the auction. I popped the back off and it was there! Looks brand new and not cracked or beat up at all. Yay!

That is a nice surprise and not a bad price really, just depends on how much of the set is present, but the battery holder and not a rotted case is a great start. I am off to work now, you seem to have just woken up, I don't do mornings all that much.
