  1. Great resto thread. Had one of these back in the day, it was my weekend racer. Had a couple of mods mainly being rc10 wing and shocks with a bit of bracing for the front end. Fox wheels all round a sport tuned motor of some form and at one point an esc was fitted. Fun times. S
  2. Hi Yellowcat, Thanks for allowing the use of your templates for both the butterfly chasi and the dual shock mounts. I have just printed them off and both printed perfectly to scale. Im using a canon mp495 printer. Cheers Shaun
  3. I would personally go a new charger, preferably a combination one and something that can cycle your battery's for you. I use both NIMH and lipo battery's. Lipo for racing NIMH for bashing. I cycle my NIMH battery's about every 4 runs to keep them in good condition. I would consider the deans or similar style plugs. The biggest problem with Tamiya plugs is when they get hot the metal stretches out of shape and looses contact between male and female which causes arcing which causes more heat which...... You get the picture.
  4. I've been hopeing this would happen I'll be getting a couple for sure. Will have to sell some junk first, gotta make room you see! :-)
  5. I've been running the tamiya black can, about 19turns give or take! with a 16amp fett style speedo, gives me about 15+ mins with a nice turn of speed, also with out having to worry about modifercations to gearboxs etc. I also only run five cell NMh 3300 cells. Home made hump style packs, from larger stick packs, they work serprisingly well and not too heavy.
  6. Wow! Hadn't looked in on this for a while, great wok mate. SRB Bloke mentioned using a smaller motor what about a brushless 380 sized motor. All you would have to do is nock up an adapter plate similar to what Tamiya used for the original grass hoper. Then you could possibly get a lot more motor detail. Possibilitys are endless. :-)
  7. Great read M. Look forward to your next installment. Yup had a Cox or two in my time! 8-} Shaun
  8. Try some of the plasti manufactures in your area. Quite often if they don't have it they may now of some one that do's. After asking around all the plastics shops in my area one of them put me onto a supplier I would never have thought to ask, they are an oddball supplier to the building industry. The only draw back is that they only carry one size sheet. 1mt x 1.5mt in 1, 2 and 3mm. Priced at $16 for the 1mm sheet up to $30 for the 3mm. I have lots to play with now! :-)
  9. For a rugh video that was pritty smoken dud! I had a grin from ear to ear:-)
  10. I have been following this since you first started. Just fantastic, only wish I could work as quick as this on my creations! Cheers Shaun
  11. Welcome aboard Mcmikeec. As Showdog said ornamental! Even the new re-release shocks have leak issues. I have started running mine upside down as they do leak from time to time, Had no issues doing this. I notice that you have rebuilt your gear box with the original bushings or did you use racer bearings? If not you can get racer bearings of evil bay quite cheaply for these buggys just search under Tamiya Sandscorcher or buggy champ and you should find what you need there. This is one of the best and easiest mods you can do for these buggys, they will improve runn times and the life of axles shafts gears etc. Great to see another old buggy getting some TLC and use. Cheers Shaun
  12. I tend to agree with M K. I recall my original SS came with a grey bumper, screws for the front springs and solid rear gear box. But my friends RR was exact Oposite black bumper, moulded spring luggs and hollow rear gear box. Both brought with in weeks of each other. I reckon you'll have fun either way you go. :-)
  13. Nice score there buddy! I have Mk1 uprights with the same indentation at the bottom of the casting as well as Mk2 items with and with out it. For all we know Tamiya may have farmed the manufacture of these parts out to different company's, hence the difference. That's my guess! Shaun
  14. Hey all, I've been running ball diffs in both my SRB's since I first built them. I just use the red lock tight and do them up tight. still running the original steel balls. They have been soaked in salt Water a few times so their fairly gnarly now, but still working fine. Lol all most like having limited slip difs! They have come loose a few times, due to me putting them in the wrong way. I still get good drift action on the beach when I want it and tight turns when needed. I might point out that I run a tamiya 19 turn sport tuned motor and five cell 3000mh batts. Weather that makes a difference I don't know but they work for me. Shaun
