I just got a new Clod with the manual speed controller which I would like to change to an ESC. I have a spare Novak Fwd/Rev ESC but it only has on set of leads for one motor and no BEC facility.
Any body got any ideas as to how I could use this ESC or if I need something better?
How good is the original mechanical speed controller? I'm thinking about it keeping cool and how to reduce battery drain.[?]

You connect your ESC directly to the switch that allows to select serial or paralell mode for the motors. For this you need no complex connection.
As for the missing bec, just keep your original receiver 4.8v pack and its correpsonding on/off switch.

I just connect the TWO wires from the ESC rather than the four from the manual control - yes?
I will still be able to select serial or parallel?
I've replaced manual controllers with ESC's before now but this controller seem to have a lot of wiring from it.
Thanks

The speed controler does not have 4 output wires, but 2 that are splited. Each wire is connected both to the switch and one of the engine. You have to maintain this setup.
What I did on my Clod was just to cut the stock speed controler "output" wires and solder them on my ESC.

You may also custom make the cabling : the engine plug is a standard tamiya part and the switch plug is exactly the same as used in audio stereo for cars (these are the plugs that connect to the unit).

You could also keep the motor wires from the mechanical speedo where they are and solder the wires from the ESC onto the mech speedo where the original motor wires are attached. You will have to disconnect the resistor etc. from the speedo and keep the board itself on the truck so that it acts as a connector (if you see what I mean), but this weighs hardly anything anyway and it at least means that you do not risk messing the ESC up. Hope you understood that!
