I don't understand why Europro is bidding on this item, as he has the exact same item for sale himself?

While himself charging an extortionate price for the one he has for sale, he has to bid on someone elses item..
Starting bid was $2.

I don't get it.

I have since bought this item for $5 from another uS based seller we all know.

Not talking about the specific seller but generally another reason could be to push the price up as he has many of those parts stashed and wants to sell them?

Thanks to the current exchange rates you can buy parts cheap in the uSA and then sell them for a profit in the uK as most uK sellers will just check ebay.co.uk and not check what is available around the world. Done it myself.

You lost an auction... haven't we all... get over it

Why question the motives of the winning bidder ? the fact is they bid more than you so they won, what difference does it make why they bid ?

I am certainly not trying to push up the prices, $8.00 is a fair price for me to pay for that part. I then relist the item in my ebay store, specifying what model it's for and the MRC & Tamiya Part Numbers so people know exactly what they are getting.

I'm sorry if I outbid you, but thats the idea with ebay.

Some uK dealers (I know of 2 who do it, there are probably others) will bid on anything current NIB *until* it hits trade price and then stop. If they win, they re-sell, if they lose they've kept the retail price of the part or kit or CD or whatever above the trade price.

It's petty but it happens.

I have been waching a certain Tamiya model over the last 4 months on ebay very closely. Now that you mention it, I do see the same two bidders always bidding on the same Tamiya vehicle, whether it be MIB or used. They have won a few but mainly bid up to the mid range of what they end up selling for. Do you think they are trying to artifically maintain a market value. Maybe I spend to much time on Ebay.

Yes, I would say that. I was talking to a guy yesterday who sells audio equipment on ebay and he's another one who does this - he says if he's selling something and someone else is selling the same thing he'll bid on their one until it reaches what he's paid because he starts his auctions at his cost price not at £1 and that way both usually sell for more. Otherwise his one won't sell if there aren't too many people looking.

I suspect there are a few dealers in each field who do the same.

Hi,
due my supershot projekt search on ebay i somtimes noticed too that some sellers who have items in their (big)shops bid on the same from other sellers.I ask myself the same question why they do that.Anyway the positiv side is that many of this items get a fixed price and are available in shop were i can find them anytime. And usually the most parts are offered longer then 7 days so i can observe the market and try to get the items cheaper. The negativ side is maybe that these fixed price are higher then the cut trough.Particularly i mean the prices in uK are a good step higher then in the rest of the world.New and Vintage. But as i said, i have a good base price to work around and i can calculate the final projekt price.

Couple of Tamiya Super Champ kits went this way recently - very frustrating as both a buyer and seller of vintage Tamiya.

These guys should just get some b*#@s together and play the stock market with the big boys ...
