Hi people,

would like to buy a NIB Pumpkin but don't wanna spend a lot of money for a 1987 NIB kit. My idea is to buy a cheap Chrome edition, then buy a not chromed body NIB or used, paint it as a pro and make a shelf queen.
Do you know the differences between these cars (obviously one is chromed), for example decal sheet is the same? And the wheels are yellow or chromed? Chessis and body shape differences?

Many thanks

Max

The wheels are chromed on the chrome edition and they took the 'FORD' off of the tailgate on the chrome edition! Those are the differences that I noticed first! I think the steering linkage is different as well! It is upgraded somewhat! There are probably more differences!

the front posts on the chrrome edition have the body clip holes 90 degrees to the original
works better with the clips front to rear, than the old style from the side

"Original" pumpkins shouldn't be hard to find NIB, as tamiya made them up 'til only a few years ago. It was out of production for only a year before the chrome edition came out.

Very early pumpkins had thin body posts.

Dont pay big money for one - they are not rare. Along with the clod buster it was probably the longest production run of any tamiya rc.

You should definetly get the chrome pumpkin. the wheels are chrome and as stated before the steering rods are beefier. The chrome body would look killer painted with one of tamiya's new clear paints. check out how it looks over shiny aluminum.

It would look even better over chrome

Hi Everybody,

many thanks for your infos. And Shodog, your wheels are fantastics. Maybe will follow your suggestion. In every case the chrome wheels are longer better than yellow ones on both chrome or black body.
Cheers

Just another doubt to solve.
Are the chrome edition decals equal to original ones? I'm buying a Chrome Pumpiking planning to change the body. Shodog suggestion is great but I'm thinking to keep it boxart for my NIB/New Built collection.
I think decals are hard to find so if they are identical is better.
Anyway my Chrom Pumpkin will arrive soon and the body NIB will be for sale so someone interested in?

Cheers
Max

The decals are different, the other difference not mentioned on this thread is that the front grille on the re-re doesn't say 8 in the middle whereas the original one does. Why I haven't a clue.

HI,

after some research on the club and on internet I can say that these are the major changes between original and chrome edition:

Wheels are equal in shape, as the bodies are.
Rear tailgate has no more Ford wrote on.
Front grille missed the 8
Front bodyposts are different
Decals are different
Window darkness????

other things seems equal. If someone know other differences please drop a line on this tread.
Will be easy find the decals and the body. Not so easy find the front grille and the rear tailgate.
If someone has some used or NIB rear tailgate or NIB front grille please contact me.
Many thanks

Max

Hi all people,

just received a couple of days ago my Midnight Pumpkin. I remember I've seen on in the far 1987 and I was surprised it made willies. After 20 years it's here, all chromed.
A NIB white body and tailgate are on the way to my mailbox. Will need the original decals and an original front grille.
It will be a shelf queen anddon't know what will do with the chrome body. Maybe will try to follow Shodog suggestion and will try to obtain a black chromed body.
Please Shodog, what kind of paint must I use?
Another question: are the window equal or chrome edition is darker like blitzer beetle chrome?
Many thanks

Tamiya makes a line of clear TS paints. I have used the red and orange and they work well. They also make a yellow.

as for the windows, you be the judge.

From your picts seems the windows have the same colour, a sort of light smoke.
And about your midnights they are great.

Cheers and thanks

The rear wheels are the 6 point hubs rather than the 12mm hex as well.

Orignal came with the black roll bar from the hilux and blackfoot. Chrome edition comes with a chrome one that was on the clodbuster which is just a chromes hilux/blackfoot bar
