I have a QD Monster bug but the steering servo has had some of it's teeth stripped and no longer steers!!
I want to put a standard acoms servo in it's place, but the tamiya QD servo has 5 wires coming from it and the acoms only three!

Can anyone help me?
Can you buy new servo's for the QD range?
How do I wire a 3 wire servo into this 5 wire circuit board?

Many thanks in advance, this is my first post, I had no idea how big this community was!!

Wow, that would be great!, It's just a bit of fun really, I got some other Tamiya cars as well but would be nice to have the Quick Drive MB up and running again,
Thanks for the welcome!!

I dont think so. The extra wires indicate that the sensor and amplifier for the resister pot is part of the main board where as on a normal servo it's all in the servo unit itself. It's probably easier and cheaper to buy rough/knackered QD from the monster range (5-10 average) and pinch the bits. Although I do recall seeing a new gear set up for grabs once for a QD. Pop to the Bay and have a look.

Thanks for the reply Sgt, Barnes, that's kinda what I thought but don't really want to buy another QD just for the servo!
Thanks for the info though and yes the yellow and orange wire go to the little motor inside the servo, I may end up just selling it for spares!, I also have one in good condition and in the original box but that lives on the shelf!!
Thanks for all the help,
Stinkus

or just do as i have and rip out the original electronics and run a manual speed controller and receiver. I had to mod the steering servo a lot by trimming off the fixing tabs, but it works a treat!

Thanks, lupogtiboy I shall have a look, I did consider putting an esc and a regular servo, but it's only a little motor, not sure it's worth it really, I have other models that deserve the parts more!, But I will have a full spare set of tires for my pumpkin and the front wheels!, I will let you all know what I decide to do...............to be continued,
E2A: lupogtiboy, did ya get that gearbox sorted?, wheelies you say?, maybe I will mod my QD!, I got an old MSC................and I have allready hacked one of my servos to fit the QD Monster Beetle!!

I was a bit bored today, so I ripped all the electrics from my shelf queen and the ESC, and fitted them into my QD beetle!!

I had previously squeezed a steering servo into the box by cutting the fixing tabs from it so I just had to fit the ESC and Rx, (I had all ready removed all electrics from the beetle), it all fitted in easy(where the circuit board used to be!), connected the motor wires to the bullet connections on speed control and stuck the 7.2V battery on top with double sided sticky tape!!

The runtime has increased dramatically, it must have lasted well over an hour!!(much better than the 8AA batteries that were there before!)

I will post some pics but my camera is bust at the moment!!

E2A: I did try before with an MSC and and old Futaba servo with an acoms servo for steering and the QD Transmitter and crystals, but I managed to break two acoms receivers in the process!! :D

A friend of mine has a mint qd monster beetle complete with box and manual. Good enough to be a shelf queen. Any idea how much its worth? Doesn't seem tob e many on ebay at the moment.

dazaa

Couldnt you have used a micro servo in the qd instead of messing up an acoms one?

Hi Dazaa, I also have a QD Monster beetle in the box!, I bought this one as spare to make one good one out of two!, I have no idea of the worth!, whatever someone wants to pay I suppose!...

I wasn't concerned about cutting the tabs off the acoms servo as I had a spare!, and knew that it would work!..

You can see the sticky mess where I stuck the 7.2V battery on, but it fits under the shell without any problems!!

Got the punch mode set on 9 :) ,
Going down to my mates later, he has a decent cam so will try and get a film,
Still using the Nimh 2000 battery and it lasts about an hour ( the motor is tiny!)
Had it in top gear most of the time, it is VERY quick, truly has just earned the Quick Drive Title.
I broke the cage/ wheelie bar on the back :P , nothing else broken yet. :P
So far I would reccomend this set up to anyone who has an old QD lying around.

Thanks Skip, you're right it is awesome!!, very very fast,
OFF TOPIC
That vid took about 9 hours to upload to youtube, I have more but 9hours???
Is it my computer?, connection?

I think TA-Mark has spoken of a brushless Qd but I haven't seen it. :)

I have another vid up now, just a short one this time ;) , didn't take too long to upload.
30seconds,
http://www.youtube.c...feature=channel
Hope you all enjoy them.

One more, just over 1 minute, Thanks for watching ;)

Just to add, all these vids were taken on one battery charge, it was just starting to run down at the end of the 10 minute vid, easy 45min runtime :D

So one question remains,
Which is faster?, Beetle or the pumpkin?

The pumpkin driver has listed his excuses ( is running without the shell cheating?)
Out of range
Flat battery
I think there was another :)

I got bored the other night and had a LED torch that no longer worked.
Three of the LED's are working again, and also a red one that used to belong to a car alarm.
Posted Image
Got a few battle scars now caused by having a brushless motor.
Lost a headlight, got an LED lightbar though.
Posted Image
Lost a piece of my rear wing and the cage around the rear. You can just make out a single red LED far right, I could only find one.
Posted Image
And the lightbar working, it's powered by 3 AAAbateries and has a seperate switch.
Posted Image

Thanks for looking.

Bringing this back from the dead. I had a QD Clod and my younger brother had a QD Midnight Pumpkin. I think they're both laying around somewhere at my parents place. Can someone help me or link me how this was done? This brings back fun memories!
