Hi, treated myself to a HB2010 at Xmas which my 6 year old Son has since commandeered as his!
He’s used and abused the buggy, frying the Tamiya esc by driving through puddles, splitting the wheel arch but we’ve both had such a good time and it’s bought back memories of me and my dad back in the 80’s finding areas of woodland to run my falcon, sorry about getting all nostalgic!

I do have a question, I’ve picked up a second HB2010 for me and was wondering if its safe to encase the Tamiya ESC in a balloon for wet weather driving? It will be running a silver can 540.

Shouldn't hurt with the stock 540 but I wouldn't use a fast motor in this buggy with the ESC enclosed. Glad you & your son are having fun with the HB2010! Pictures are good.

You may have heat issues with the esc in a balloon. The old trick was to connect up you receiver, make sure all the plugs are tight and test it to check its working correctly. Then squeeze the whole receiver into the balloon and secure it with a cable tie. Esc can be tricker but a good method Ive used is to coat them in a thorough layer of silicone sealant (you can get it for bathrooms in DIY stores or better still Halfords sell it in black by the tube) so the only bits that's clear is the heat sink. You'll still be able to see the light flash and you'll need something like a nail to press the reset button. It's best to do this after you've fixed it into the chassis as the silicone doesn't let much stuck to it once it's on.

Well here is my entry into the Holiday Buggy Appreciation Society. This is the first time the body has been fitted. I still have to programme the ESC, mount the switch and charge a battery so it will see dirt for the first time pretty soon. Thanks to everyone on this thread for your help and inspiration guys, (I've got just finished new build stoke right now) I matched the roof with the body and omitted the guard (fender) decals. Painted the jerry cans Dark Sea Grey to match the Sand Viper wheels. Power system is a 4000kv 8.5t EZrun that I will tone down at first. Robinson Racing 17t steel pinion. CVA dampers with soft springs. Sandviper wheels and tyres. 3 Racing front camber links and tie rods. The diff has a whole 3g tub of AW grease packed in there too

I hope you like it guys and I can't wait to drive it. Cheers.

Thanks Theibault. Dito for your Super Hotshot mate, looks great. I programmed the ESC last night with the punch setting at 1. (soft) and 0 timing advance and we will see how it goes as it's still untested.

I hope it does fly, just not literally Cheers.

I see that you've mounted the front shocks the normal way. Aren't the caps hitting the body, as the manual suggests the shocks to be mounted upside down, and to shorten the length when using mini CVA oil shocks?

I put a 3600kv in mine, but went with the bigger pinion , it does 2 inch high wheelies at speed, the thing is nuts



Should probably put the 17t pinion in it myself

They are very close so now I will have another look at them, cheers. The manual calls for 64mm but 65mm is as close as I could get (or they are 64mm and my eyeball / ruler measuring is out)

Thanks buddy, your one and BMT's entry influenced this build for sure. I will post up after the shakedown run but I have decided to make a few changes first. I just received a DF03 setting spring set and the ball nuts that I need to fit an adjustable rear camber link so it's back to the workbench.

I ran the Holiday Buggy with 8.5t EZ Run brushless first the first time today. It was a great success and I will keep it this way for a while. It absolutely hammers and even with the punch and timing turned right down, it wheelies from about 3/4 throttle at any speed. The DT02 chassis can definately handle the power, I'm just not sure for how long. Handles the jumps pretty well too. Motor temp was fine, I got through a 3800mah 2S pack with only a couple of short breaks to check the temp and all OK. I flipped it a couple of times, nothing broke, the wheels didn't fly off so happy days.

The Holiday Buggy looks awesome at speed and in the air. It's now my favourite runner and the best thing is that the driver looks like Queensland MP, Bob Katter

Mate I can just see Bob Katter driving one of these, makes me laugh every time I look at him.

Yeah, the diff has loosened up a bit after the shakedown run but both wheels are spinning up together under power every time. Even coming out of a power slide and hammering it, it would square up beautifully with both wheels roosting dirt and it never spun one wheel only. I packed the diff completely with AW grease, to the point where pushing the drive cups in forced AW grease back out past the shaft.

Best tires i've tried in terms of lasting are the proline dirt dawgs . Good grip on all surfaces

so long as its not deep soft sand they'll be fine . For deep sand use the sand slingers .

Yes as bromvw said Proline DIrt Hawgs are great tyres! I''ve got a set, and you will need to glue them the your wheels.

It does, however, need more power now. I had switched back to the 380 for run times, but with the 2.2s it can't get out of its own way. Where did I put that 17 tooth pinion...?

What's better than a Sunday morning blast in the sunshine with your favourite runner. Got out to Box Hill this weekend with my brother and his son, we took out HB's and my nephews crawler and entertained the locals with the usual donuts, wheelspins, J turns and a couple of spectacular tumbling wipeouts! Great fun had by all.

Always found Box Hill to be pretty RC friendly although we did find a few "dog mines" this trip. They've closed off the main car park and built a tempory TV studio there to report on the Olympic cycles race that's happening at the end of the month.

I found my HB body is cracking all around those 2 big screws you screw through the hood to hold in the interior in and i only ran mine 2 times and did not beat on it at all it happened from just sitting... I do remember those screws they give you to screw in felt to me to big and hard to screw in the part..... maybe i just over tightened it ... anyones body have hair line cracks around those two screws?

Well, I can't help you, as I broke the body accidentally right at the first run.

As a Mabuchi RS-540 motor is a bit too fast for my needs (I'm in the fear of breaking another lovely bodyset), I wonder if the Tamiya CR-Tuned motor or similar motors would be a good choice for scale running at slightly lower speeds with torque. I haven't tried out the 380 motor yet, but I don't know if the small 380 has enough torque to get this vehicle (the body isn't lightweight) over obstacles and grass.
