Starting a build thread for the flatbed trailer... I searched the entire web, and not a lot of photos of this particular trailer, so I decided to do a more photo heavy build thread...

Day 1. Standard build using all the included pieces to widen the uprights. This will be built with retractable legs, and light kit.

I had a sneakin' suspicion Looking forward to this build. I'm converting 2 x Bruder "toy" low loader's, but could use some inspiration

Yosemite Sam! Here in the states I used to see the rear mudflaps on the Big Trucks with Yosemite Sam and the phrase "Back Off!"

I left off the "Back off" part, but the Yosemite Sam character reminds me of all the trucks I saw in my youth. It's printed on clear Testors decal paper.
I just installed them on the white mudflaps, and they look AWESOME!

How funny! An old acquaintance of mine used to drive a Honda Goldwing, and this "Sam"-character was on it´s rear mudflap also, WITH the words: "BACK OFF!", and along with that, it had flashing LED´s in it, sort of like bullets shooting from both of his guns. Looked kinda funny.

Now I see what you are doing with him... great idea.
What type of printer can you use?

You can use a regular ink jet printer. Kind of a pain to get the paper to feed, but it does work once printed.
The reason the colors work so brightly, is the mudflap is white.

More progress, the electrics for the motorized legs are quite fiddly!

Lighting and electric legs done. The lighting kit only has brake and turn, but the flatbed has 3 lights each side. I will probably add aux lights later.

I also drilled and installed the light cable UNDER where the flatbed boards should go. The instructions make it so you have to cut away wood, and have the cable showing.
This way it will be invisible on top.

Well the light kit comes with a full set for the Tanker trailer, or the Box trailer it seems. Those were the only 2 in the instructions!
Old instructions, not very well done on either the lights or motorized legs.

Doing something a little different with the deck, a center strip of aluminum, polished up...

Excellent thread so far. What semi will the trailer be for ? I think I read somewhere that the motorized legs don't work with the Scania - I think it catches and requires a spacer soemwhere ?

It's going to be used with my Knight Hauler, but I also will be building a Scania.. will have to look that up.

Stained the wood. Wow, it looks so good, even better than photos. Just smells really bad right now. hahaha....

Getting the decals on, still have to get into the styrene and build up some storage boxes, etc...
I'm amazed how fun this trailer is. It's the "cheapest" of all the trailers, but it's a lot of fun to do!

And yes, I'm watching the Super Bowl while I do this...

Actually just leftover stain from my exterior deck on my house! At least I know it's waterproof and UV protected! Hahaha..

Prob some standard wood finish lacquer would look better, but it's looking pretty nice as is.
I'm still amazed how fun even the cheapest of the trailers is to build. I think this may be more fun than a simple box trailer (more expensive) due to the wood deck.

Awesome, There is to much to buy now along with a re-re bruiser a tank and now a trailer to go with a tractor truck lol!

Good question, I have only one functioning MFU in an F350 MF-U2 I think. I have another orginal in a box waiting to be built for my Scania but from all the reading I've done on the forums I think the masses are not satisfied with the "old technology" of the MFU.

I know I haven't even figured out the functions of the one on my f350 and dread installing and learning the one for my scania !

Note: F350 is packed and stored - no experimentation time .

ALthough, Skottoman is making it difficult to resist geting my Scania & flatbed kits out to build !!

If you had this kit, you could totally do this. Don't think you can't... Here's how.

- Build frame of kit. Buy $5 can of Spray paint. Paint entire thing. Use almost whole can.
- Build accessories/wheels/shocks. Attach to dried painted frame.
- Attach light kit by drilling 1 hole and installing as instructions.
- Attach motorized leg kit by simply following instructions.
- Buy $9 piece of aluminum. Cut with hack saw to size. Polish one side with some wadding polish.
- Install deck boards and aluminum per instructions. Get old can of deck stain and used hard brush out of basement. Slather on, wipe off with paper towels.
- Apply decals.

AT this point, you'll have what I have here... so now I'm going to be getting into some styrene for storage boxes, etc...
