Hello,

I've seen a few different posts about using the re-re frog dog bones on the first generation Blackfoot, I was wandering if any one could give me a definitive answer - if they do work ok? Or is there to much movement in the suspension so that no amount of O rings will hold them in place?

As you may guess my old hex drives have given up, they've lasted since I got the truck new back in 89 so can't complain really! Just about every other part has been replaced by now.

I've ripped the wheel of my King Blackfoot along with most of the suspension & don't like to use my scorcher too much in case I scratch it! The others are in so many bits they don't even resemble cars so I'm without an RC ride right now B)

So can anyone help with my hex drives?

Thanks

Andy

I'm using the Re-re Frog dogbones in my runner Blackfoot right now and they fit and work with no problems.

Ya what Satio said. All you need to do is rebuild your gearbox with the rere frog drive cups axles and dog bones. I am glad to see that you got some good use out of those old hex drives! lolololol! If you are looking for another set of hex drives (if you really want them) I have a set that I can send you. Pm me if you are interested <_<

Sounds promising, thanks very much. I'm not bothered about keeping it original, just want it to be as reliable as possible so didn't want to go with the dog bones if they were going to be trouble, I'd like to fit brand new re-re parts as long as they stay put!

With the Re-re parts you will have no problem at all. <_<

They look good thanks very much, trouble is I’ll end up doing that mod with the bolt through the middle of the diff when it’s all in bits!

Just in case anyone is stuck for dogbone shafts, If they're normal straight steel ones it's dead easy to adapt a different length one to fit your application.
I've just shortened a pair to fit my ratcar bushbasher. At first I was going to cut to length and silver solder them, but I thought I'd try soft solder.
You'll need K & S Brass tubing (at any hobby shop) to sleeve over the joint. I used two brass tubes 20mm and 30mm long. Flux all the bits, slide 'the shafts into the tubing, heat and run soft solder into the joints.
Now it won't be perfect but it'll get you running. Today I just ran my ratcar up and down the drive (without sympathy), -about a K of pretty rough stoney hilly surface and the shafts are good.

hey OSR - so are you sure the frog dogbone setup is long enough so that they don't pop out even at the extremes of the suspension throw? i'm toying with switching to the re-re parts but i think i read somewhere that the dogbones were just a touch too short for the blackfoot. i'm not sure exactly why that would be given the similarity in the design, but i've also had enough experiences now with mixing original and re-re parts and finding small but problematic differences in the some dimensions... so it's not beyond the realm of possibility there is a small functional difference.

That is a good question. Now you are making me rethink??? Can someone post the rear end section of a Blackfoot?
Thanks

Blackholesun used the re-release Frog dogbone type driveshafts for his Beetle Frog hybrid project:

Which turned into a proper Monster Beetle with dogbones later on:

Give it a go! I am sure that it will work if you use all the re-release parts.

it's a shame b/c i actually think the hex halfshafts are cooler. in an intangible, vintage way. but they really do fall out under normal use. which is, just, incredibly frustrating.

You definately want to get rid of those especially if you are throwing any power to that little buggy of yours! :) Did they work?
