Well the industry has had 25 years in resin and carbon development. Therefore you can probably assume they are chemically different, with the modern stuff being a lot stronger and possibly lighter and/or stiffer. Plus composite parts do experience degradation with age.

As far as aesthetics go, the vintage plates have a very matte finish. The modern carbon is more satin to me. Also the modern resin seems to be more of an amber color. Though this is just going from memory. Can't say I've actually compared them side by side.
