Craigslist strikes again... $25 this time for an RC10 CE with the Stealth gearbox... been looking for a gold-tub for a while now. This'll do nicely. :)

Stay tuned...

Started digging into this old beast a bit. It's a little rougher than I thought, but it will make a good runner with a few parts. Transmission is in good shape; I opened it up, cleaned it out, replaced the worn-out bushings with bearings, and I'll call it good. Suspension parts are just fine, they just need cleaning. Shocks need a rebuild. It still has the original bent-wire steering drag link, but not for long; I have an old Punisher titanium turnbuckle that is the right size and I can scrounge up some ball ends. Front tires and wheels are original; rears are one-piece Team car wheels with new Losi tires. They'll do fine for bashing around.

I'm still debating the running gear; it came with an old Reedy Mr. N's modified motor (19 turn triple) that appears to be in good condition. I haven't tested it yet, but if it's all right, I'll probably use it. Otherwise I have a nice Trinity stock motor I can use. I considered going brushless with it, but I think I'll keep this one old school. I have a bunch of ESCs and receivers not doing anything, so I just have to find the most suitable ones and stick 'em in.

So now I just need about $30 worth of stuff: bearings for the front wheels and rear axles, a new body, and a shock rebuild kit, all still available brand new from Tower. More photos later; my camera is out in the studio.

Up & running! Still needs a few parts, but it sure is nice to drive an RC10 again...

Oh, and I found a home for that old '33 Ford body that came with that dead Frog!

Fits pretty nice, don't you think?

Love the RC10s. This one looks great and it was a fantastic deal! I picked up a CE about a year ago for $25. It's now being changed into an Old/New buggy with B4 wheels, longer suspension arms and an RPM 2.65 transmission.

Yeah, I think the reason it was so cheap is the guy just had it listed as "RC car chassis," with no description, just a photo and phone number. He didn't know anything about it; he was just selling stuff that an old roommate left behind.

I'm still not sold on the Ford body; I have a fresh Scorcher body that was going to go on my SRB, but I wonder how it would look on here...

Very good!

You know, the B4/4.1 slipper and top shaft are a direct fit for the 2.25 stealth tranny, and has a larger slipper area, which is built for BL motors. Also, there are tons of brand new RC10 bodies and wings on eBay. Use the keyword "vintage rc10" for your search.

Are you going to post a video of it in action?

There are lots of creative ways to get some of the newer B4 parts on your CE. One of the coolest ones is modifying the chassis to accept B4 wheels and tires. The RC10 in my avatar has those modifications including the B4 slipper.

No video yet, but I do have a photo of its new look:

I might upgrade to some newer drivetrain parts later, but for now it's fine just the way it is. The old Reedy 19 turn motor is "just fast enough," and I like how it drives now.
