Well, I missed out on the older Clod kits.....Day late, Dollar short syndrome runs in my family :)
I'm not sure why I waited so long to decide and add one of these to my collection, and when I did decide to buy one....well of course they were already discontinued. Tower Hobbies had the latest release on back order for quite a while, and I would check the status daily. As usual, I checked their site a couple times at work today and they were still showing status as back order. I got home from work and figured I'd take a quick look again.....Holy CR@P!! They have them in stock!! Needless to say, I've already placed an order. I also ordered a Hitec High torque HS-635MG servo to put in it. Also, I went ahead and got a complete set of Green Seal Boca bearings on order. (I never do a build with out full bearings). I think I will go ahead and build it with all stock parts, including the stock ESC that will come with it, and even try the 4 wheel steering for a while before doing some upgrades. Some things I plan to get later will be the Traxxas EVX-2 waterproof ESC, and maybe a couple sport tuned motors, as I believe they are zero timed, (Not looking for wild speed) and maybe some Tower Aluminum ST-15 shocks. Now for the hard part......WAITING FOR THE DELIVERY!!!! UUgghhh!!!

I wonder how the Super Clod is holding up compared to modern giant R/C monster trucks?

It's just so mean looking! Way better and more realistic scale than every other modern MT I've seen so far. Speed is not my main concern, however, I'm not sure about handling with those solid axles, and parts that are likely to break while bashing?

The parts are more than adequate to cope with bashing in the configuration Tamiya intended. Put silly power motors in and you change the character of the truck and expose the weak spots of the chassis - fine if you want to modify things all round but ultimatley you end up moving to upgraded parts all round if speed and big air is your thing,.
History for last 30 months.. bought too many, not sold enough - current stable 46 EEK

I agree 100%. I do not plan to bash this truck hard. I may upgrade the ESC and motors as I said earlier, but I don't think those will hurt anything (I want the Traxxas ESC for the dual battery capabilities and the fact it is made for a dual motor set-up as well) I will probably lock the rear diff too. I plan to pick up either an Axial SCX10 or an Associated SC10 4x4 Factory Team Kit for my hard bashing this summer. For shear fun, I think the Super Clod will fit the bill nicely.

What's funny is that if you do want to build a Clod for hardcore bashing, you don't need Tamiya at all. You can build one entirely from aftermarket parts.

I've just removed the tamiya dual motor esc from my super clod buste runner and replaced it with a Tekin FXR Pro and use a 5400 mah Taxxas Lipo.

Excellent performance, great fun and durable !

The only other hop ups are tamiya sport tuned motors, ball bearings and Tamiya oil damper shocks (juggernaut hop ups).

Decent run time too .

Toys they're not.

Thanx for the info backtomyroots! I thought the sport tuned motors would be a good upgrade without getting too wild. I use them in a few of my other runners, and they are decent motors. I want to see how the stock dampers perform, and then maybe I'll upgrade to those Tamiya Juggernaut dampers. I think I'll stick with NiMH batteries for now too. I've got quite a few 3S Lippos I run in my Helicopter, but not sure if I want swap over to them in my cars/trucks just yet.

It's in the "spares" pile until I find it a new home. Or ebay it . I have a few "shelf queen" projects it may get too though. Eventually !

Kev, what motors are you running? I've run Mtronics ESC's in parallel on my twin motor trucks with no issues, RV12 Assaults for silver cans and sport tuned and RV Max for quicker, down to twin 19t which was silly fast.

Tony . 55t crawler motor for 4x4 drive , tamiya silver can for the prop drive . ? what Mtronics waterproof ESC would you use. BOTH will be switched via a dig device but i may want to run both together at times .

It's just silver cans in it for now, probably wouldn't more than sport tuned.

Is it easy to use an mtronics single motor esc in the clod? How is it wired up and does it do away with the power-speed switch?

Have a look at the 2 motor 1 ESC thread I just bumped, everything you need is there.
