The TF2 is now back in stock at RC4WD. Just ordered mine. Don't know how I am going to sneak it past the wife

I have been building a workshop in a shed in my garden which went live this weekend. My wife-avoidance strategy is now 1) get delivery to office: 2) take package home by train and drive up to house, leaving package in car boot: 3) later hat evening, "pop out to check the drain / bin / tire (delete as applicable) are OK, and shifitly move package into shed: 4) hide package inside big empty brown box I have kept for such purposes. 5) wander back into house trying not to look shifty!

Was watching the TF2 build videos on youtube. It looks fantastic. I think one of them may have to come my way. I just wish I could buy them here so avoiding the dreaded customs from the US and RC4WDs rather expensive postage.

As a TF2 owner, i wouldnt put it in the same class as the 3 speed Tamiya kits.

The TF2 is nice enough but is cheap for a reason. My Tundra feels like its worth twice the money and a big plus is Tamiya are real kits.

The Bruiser is a step up again.

You make a good point. I do love building and it annoys me that RC4WD axles and gearboxes come pre-made. I want to make them.

You do however, have to take the rc4wd bits apart to check for proper lubrication, fit and finish - so it's like building the kit :).

I've the bruiser re release I'm just starting (the body is time consuming !), nearly completed the tundra 3 speed but have yet to start my Trailfinder 2. On the base of this I can say there is certainly more "building" with the Tamiyas.

If you want a more realistic 3 speed go for the bruiser re re, has 2wd & 4wd. That's better than the 2 or 3 speeds Tamiya and TF2, I think !

Toys they're not.

I couldnt check the built components of my TF2, the first screw i tried to remove from the tranny was stripped so i didnt attempt any others.
The axle metal is also soft and not somthing i would want to undo and redo..

LMAO  I love how you have worked this into a formal plan of action. Reminds me of my Dad's purchase of his giant scale Hurricane. The box was about 6' x 3' x 2' so not easy to hide. He took it straight into his office where it sat for 3 months waiting for my Mum to go overseas. Only then did he dare bring it into the house.

I have RC at my friend's place for several years now. NIB under the bed and in the closet the display case is full and don't want to rid what I have now. I have no room, else I would've gotten the re-re Brusier, FAV and the street rover by now. Can't store in the car, the heat would damage the plastic, decal, rubbers etc...If only I have more space...the wife runs the house you know.

Your dad is a genius. I have to plan these things with military precision and try to always remember the motto "adapt innovate and overcome"
As Tamiya1/10 says, the wife does indeed run the house. Luckily though she does not have a key to my cave.

Women could find better use for a box of dimensions 6x3x2' ... might have to hire a hearse though ;)

Interesting thread. I have been torn between the tf2 or the tamiya hilux (would love a bruiser instead but funds won't allow). All things considered i'm going for the tamiya cos i just love the full build and the vehicle will only ever be a shelf queen so any advantages that the tf2 may have with regards to handling won't affect me. also I love doing vehicles that mimick tamiyas awesome box art.
I'm going to Florida in a few weeks and had planned to buy one and post back to myself but cant see it being cheaper than the current £350 delivered price on eBay, unless someone on here knows something I dont:-)

My TF2 arrived yesterday. Thankfully, the postman decided the box was too big to carry on their little bikes so the put a note in the mailbox for me to collect it at the post office AND my wife didn't check the mailbox!!! :D :D :D So I was able to collect it on my way into work. Now it is sitting in the boot of the car waiting for a good excuse to go out and "just check something in the car"....

Don't you all hate it, you cannot just order online, bring the kits home and build it on kitchen table without any sneaky action or looking over your shoulder to see if the wife is near. Many years ago I was able to do just that and what a great feeling but now everything has to be secretly planned as I said it was my last kit like 5 kits before lol. I just don't get that full satisfying feeling anymore by building them out of sight. Right now I'm building secretly underground, poor mans version of TF2/HL Hilux by using TF1 and highlift axles that I got from real cheap. The brand new rolling chassis without the tranny is just under $160 what a great value!

I totally sympathise with you folks. If my wife knew what I had spent on RC over the years she'd kill me (or leave me, but probably kill me first). I had a break from RC for a bit but I am getting back into it a bit now and plan to build up a tamiya collection but it will be difficult to explain when new cars appear from nowhere. I currently have a Fiat Abarth M05 built and painted hidden under a car trailer in the garage!
I work from home and at the moment I am building a Tamtech so when I get a spare few minutes I get all the various sprues and screws from under my desk and have a quick tinker. Everytime I hear the mrs coming up the stairs I have to chuck it all under the desk again. She asked the other day why I had my pitbox in the house and I just said 'oh I need to clear it out sometime!'
I remember buying a Sand Scorcher ReRe a year or so ago and luckily it arrived when she was out. I put it straight in the loft and a couple of days later I told her I was going to dig out that old rc kit I bought years ago and never built, 'I think it's in the loft....:-)' That one worked a treat.
I don't think of it as deceit. Deceit in me eyes is playing away from home and you know what people say......blokes without a hobby must be having an affair;-)

I usually just put it into perspective - "Hey - I could be spending the money in the pub instead of sitting at home fiddling with my toys" (-:
Of course they're faster than me !. They're Young, Fit and Fearless - I'm Old, Fat and Scared !..

Has that ever worked? If I said something like that, I'd get a "...YOU SHOULDN'T BE SPENDING TIME AT THE PUB, YOU SHOULD BE HOME WITH THE KIDS...DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SPEND ON MYSELF...WHEN DO YOU SPEND TIME WITH ME...". You are very lucky if you can get away with it. I know I couldn't. :(

I'm sure the no-kids part - and me not spending time at the pub at all helps (-:

I don't get it. My wife supports my hobby 100%. She doesn't care if I spend my $ on my toys. I support her hobbies 100%.

In fact, she encourages me to get kits, helps choose paint colors, and even got me a Knight Hauler for Christmas.
I encourage her in her hobbies (quilting, gardening), and she encourages me in mine. Seems fair.

Back to the subject of RC...
I have looked at the TF2, and it seems nice but I've built the Gelande chassis from RC4WD, and it was not Tamiya quality for sure.

While I do have a re-re bruiser, I am still tempted by the Highlift Hilux.

Same situation here. My wife quilts and embroiders, and I help her with measurements and design software. She supports my purchases and lets me spend as much or as little as I want. We both keep it within reason and make sure we take care of our responsibilities first.

we've got a bottleshop + RC hobbyshop in this little city downunder

unbeatable business combination you'd think, but their shoddy
customer (dis)service totally kills most customers returning :(

When you say bottleshop, do you mean beer?
