For those old enough to remember the original Brat when Subaru put it out. It came with seats in the bed facing rearward. Has anyone found seats to make the Tamiya version look like the original? It was always an interesting part of the car but usually discarded over the years so you almost never see them.

Oh my - I dunno about that. You can always call California's TamiyaUSA warehouse, and make a friend over the phone and ask him about that. Otherwise, I'd check out Craigslist and eBay for that back bed body type.

Good luck!

cut up a trashed sand rover shell and you'll have something.
Problem I see is the ''bed'' isn't really sunk enough to put a pair of proper seats

Maybe a couple of those Recaro cell-phone cradles? The scale crawler guys have been using them for seats for a while now. Or possibly the front seats out of an Axial Wraith kit, though I don't know how big they are.

the wraith seats will be way over your roof
Like I said, if the bed was sunk more you'd have an easier time finding something

Yeah, I see what you're looking for. Seems to me you'll have to customize your own pair of seats for the Brat pick-up. Be sure to get yourself a couple of dolls, too, to reproduce the broads in this picture ;)

Not only the rear seats are pretty weird, but what about those ski-stick handles? :D

the rear seats are due to the chicken tax so the car was classified as a personal vehicle and not an utility pick up

My sister got one new, so I remember them well. I don't think I'll be reproducing any of the scenes I remember from those back seats but just a bit of nostagia.

I wonder why the fuel flap is taped up in that pic ^

You could possibly make some of those seats quite easy :)

I love the fact that they're clearly drinking beer un-seatbelted in the back of an open topped moving vehicle. Subaru's company heads would likely experience stress related incontinence if anyone tried to get that greenlit now.

it's illegal to ride in the back of a pickup now with insurance companies running the country

I went with these, they aren't perfect but the size was right. They were in the 910, so I've pretty much used every bit of that model somewhere.

Yeah, I recall those seats...good for going to the drive-in, star gazing, tail gate party, watching NACAR races.
Since you got the seats sorted out, i was thinking using the 1/14 truck seats with a bit of modification.

My sister and I were discussing her blue Brat the other day and her earliest memory after it's purchase was being stopped by the police and threatened with charges of indescent exposure. Turns out it was one of my older brothers taking a leak while standing in the back of it. Needless to say there was no ticket since she didn't have the ....equipment to do such a thing.

Collective memory loss, we spent almost a month driving around in it but neither of us remember how we got home. Home at that time had no roads into it so it's a big memory blank spot for us both. Our last memory in it is the Seattle/ Canada border.

I'll put the rothmans driver in the back and take a picture to send her. his hands are in about the right position if looked at from the back

Looks great, I do remember those seats as well...
I'd for sure fabricate up some of those ski-pole handles though... Complete the look.

Loved riding in the back of trucks in the 80's!
Cheers,

I really like your work with those seats, but was wondering... how can you attach (and detach) the body to the chassis if you can not reach the rear body posts anymore?

With the roll bar in it, I couldn't reach them before. I'll make something easy to get to.
