I just went to find the meme thread on the autosport forum and it still makes no sense?

Checks bank account, can't find balance

Call me stupid or ignorant if you like, but why is that funny? ( I don't watch F1)

If you don't watch F1 - even those that watch F1 but aren't really "into" F1 probably won't find the above quote, my first post or most of the meme thread funny.

Its just the pic of your cat pointing at the wheels then looking to camera made me smile and think of the JB balance jokes. Jenson Button doesn't like a car moving around underneath him and complains almost constantly about not being able to get the balance right - hence the balance jokes.

Like any joke, if you have to explain it, its no longer funny :)

@EddScott,Thanks for explaining it, Racing drivers always have excuses. I did laugh at some of the jokes in that thread. "THE HITMAN" one was funny. :)

@Billg4, No plans yet, have to get some paint, but you are right, I should be making plans so I know what paint to get.

@Eddscott, one thing I have noticed about Jenson Button and it's very obvious in that picture is that his pupils are always dilated, It might be the brim of his hat keeping his eyes in the dark, or it might be something else?

I visited a couple of LHS's in the area and came across some paint, couldn't remember which brush paints I needed for Willy so just chose a selection.

Was going to get the flat clear (PS-55) but they didn't have it. I did get white (PS-1) and red (PS-2).

I have been asking the mrs if she will paint my willy for ages and she, had great fun doing it.

It's looking great, love the flames on the helmet!

A hint for painting future driver heads, use a long screw, and twist it into the bottom of the head. Makes it easy to hold, and paint all sections of the head. Looks like your lady was having to hold your Willy's head directly in her hand?! (Ok, enough with the Willy jokes). :)

Kudos for having a partner that helps you do this crazy hobby...
Cheers,
Skottoman

Hi Skottoman, I was thinking about trying to make my willy move?, and adding some lights?
If I get a 4ch radio, can I have one extra mini servo on Willy's head and a switch for the lights? or will the extra channel only work a servo?.

I see toggle switches on some of the radios I have looked at, could the toggle switch operate a set of led's?

Edit, yeah she started on the face and worked out, lightest colours first, a screw would have been much easier.

It's her first time painting a willy, I think she really enjoyed it, shame his legs aren't included.

Thats a flippin good paint job from such a naff nylon brush! Make her life easier next time and get a proper paint brush made from hair. They dont have to cost much but you'll get a more professional result and it'll hold and apply the paint a lot better.

Thanks Mr Crispy, thats a great tip as well., It's turning into quite an informative thread.

I am just about to start masking the body, I have Tamiya masking tape in 6mm and 10mm, does anyone have any tips for this?

Balance cat checks out the left over parts and discovers some parts for the M04l
Posted Image
Lots of light coats,
Posted Image
Looking good, can't see any major bleeds,
Posted Image
I was really nervous/careful at this point to not pull any of the window masks off, I should have left the windows till after.
Posted Image
All the window masks stayed in place, some of them did lift a corner when I removed the big tape from the roof, but I soon pressed them back down.
Posted Image The window masks were great, the ones that did lift were easily pressed back down.
And they were easy to remove after the white was dry,

Nice work on the paint, now for the pain of 34,621 decals to put on! Hahah... :)

I don't see why you need a 4 channel radio to have Willy move, or lights.
Just split a servo feed with a "Y" connector, and put a mini servo in Willy's body. (Make sure it goes the same direction as steering first!)
For lights, just get something off ebay, or the Tamiya TLU, which will allow you to turn on the lights with a small switch on the chassis.

Cheers,
Skottoman

Thanks Skottoman, I do have some red paint on the roof, I didn't have any thinners, so I just carried on hoping for the best. The extra sticker on the lights that earlier I had said there was no place for, I think it was 23, it says it the instructions that it is not used, so I need to pay more attention. The Mrs is putting the window rubber stickers on now. :)

All the decals are now fitted, gotta admit the mrs did most of them, 23 windows, all of the square side windows had 4 decals each, that was a bit of a pane
I even managed to get the wheels dirty :) on it's first proper run. I have changed the pinion now for a steel 20T, was hoping for a bit more speed but it is very tame with the stock motor.

I think someone wants to have spin in your T1 wheelie. He even bought his own steering wheel. :D

She did a good job too

Wouldn't worry about the speed at this stage - faster motors just mean that nice body won't last as long !
History for last 30 months.. bought too many, not sold enough - current stable 46 EEK

@Tamiya 1/10, yeah that's my blitzer beetle driver, he broke off after a rather bumpy trip across the local park.

Thanks Percymon, I will pass on your compliments. and yes I do want the body to stay nice for a while so I may just leave the silvercan in for a just now.Edit, just had a mad idea to fit blitzer beetle headlight buckets in place of the stickers.

I wonder if this body set would fit on a Lunch Box chassis?

-Paul

Hi Paul

I thought this too when i bought my Lunchbox, but the wheel base on the camper shell is shorter, it would fit but look odd.

Thanks Bromvw,
The 1/1 bus uses beetle headlights, that's what gave me the idea, I checked the size and it's not bad, would have been nice if they were a little bigger.

I havn't followed it up, it was just an idea, as I was thinking of ways to add lights to the bus.

This has turned out really cool! Love the Willy paint, and it looks great! Although I wouldn't want to put on all those decals for the windows... Good thing you got your lady to do it for you!

The lights are a great idea... you should see how far you can take this one...
Cheers,
Skottoman

This looks stunning, im going to be buying this kit in the very near future!

Just a quick question, can the body be mounted lower? To get rid of the visable gaps?
