I've just taken delivery of my 4th Fox. (I liked Foxes)

This one looks very early. Spacers in for a hump battery and different resistor covers.

What is intriguing me though is the wheels. They are Silver Plated. Definitely Tamiya rims as they're stamped 'Wild One'.

These don't look like a recent addition as they're chipped and certainly look like they've been with this buggy for a number of years.

Can anyone recall Silver Plated Fox/Wild One rims from back in the day?

Thanks. J

Probably they are some old gold plated wheels washed with a strong soap like dish soap or alcool.
The gold wheel are chrome plated and that painted with gold. The paint is really weak and if you wash it the wheels turn back chrome.

Big thank you to Max and Christian. Christian, I tried to reply to your email but it got bounced.

The chrome plating is washed over in yellow and certain conditions will remove the yellow. Mystery solved.

WillyChang,

I since found gold plate inside the wheels where the bearings sit so they were definitely originally Gold and definitely vintage, in my opinion.

I own old vintage gold plated fox and hot shot wheels. They are silver plated and gold laquered. With dish soap the gold goes away.

what dishsoap do you buy? sounds like powerful stuff :)

when the SShot & Fox were new we scrubbed them with Amway LOC, they've stayed gold.
Places where its flaked off would show white plastic not silver.

The silver plate flakes, the gold paint can be washed away. I used green lemon dish soap, I'm located in Italy so it's name say nothing to you probably. I'm sure there are identical products in your country.
Anyway you can wash also the silver plate with alcool. I suppose the alcool can wash the gold paint before the silver plate.
