Hi, I've built this from old Monster Beetle parts with a re-re Brat shell, Hex hardware used where possible, Hpi Wheels with Imex Claw Dawg tyres. I've modified some TL01 front hubs to allow the fitment of 12 hex wheels allround.

Still to finish the body, as you can see I've started removing the old paint which thankfully is flaking off easily, also I need to improve the bump steer (I've got some taller ball studs to try) and update the driveshafts to dogbone type,

I'm sure it's TONS of fun to run this one. Looks more a Mud Blaster than a Brat. Exception would be the lexan body.
Have you got any videos of this beast running?

Not yet, I had a quick run in the backyard and the old driveshafts are near worn out. Even with the basic motor they were skipping. Handling is good though.

The plan was to bung in a brushless system for some fun next weekend but until I sort out the drivetrain to handle more power it's on the back burner.

Today out of curiosity I've put a 4600kv Castle system in my Hilux High Lift, I've had a quick run indoors and it's great, more to follow on that one.

pick up some re-re brat or frog parts for the rear, those old ''hex bones'' don't stand a chance with modern batteries or motors

Indeed, also the brass pinion and 30 year old gears will need updating.

Yep, all to come <_<

I've decided to sell my Hilux 3-speed and invest some time and money into this.

First to hunt down for as cheap as possible are re-re rear axles and dogbones..........Anyone ??

I just got all new Frog bits.

Aside from the wheels, it looks all Monster Beetle. If you're going brushless, then the screw mod is a must.

I got an adjustable motor mount, which makes it possible to run different pinion sizes. If found the original 10t far too restrictive. 13t is a lot more suitable, with the extra torque of the motor.

I'm in a bit of a quandry to be honest, not sure wether to spend the time and money on this project.

To get it to a "bashable" state might be too expensive. Plus I've the urge for a capable Stadium Truck and the Losi 22T has caught my eye

Right sold the hilux, now decision time.

After pricing up new frog/brat re-re parts It's going to be £40ish to upgrade the drivetrain to handle anything much more than the standard silvercan, so this project will be for sale. It is made up (as said above) from vintage Monster Beetle parts from 2 cars. I'll start a for sale thread soon.

Now I'm mulling over purchasing a new Lunchbox for some bashing on the beaches near me :)

What TL01 Parts did you use for the front hubs and how is it working for you ?
I want to be able to use 12mm hex wheels in the front, too.

For wheels with a similar offset to the standard MB ones there's a good thread further down the page, however the HPI wheels I'm using here have the hex deeper in the wheel causing the wheel to rub on the hubs arm, so I added an arm from a donor hub & trimmed the excess off (i.e the redundant part of the TL01 hub).

Love the mods you did to the hubs, mate!
Keep us updated with the progresses you make with the Brat.

I'm not sure what to do with this project, just mulling it over at the moment.

I used trimed Tl-01 hubs as well. However I used my old hex rear axles (with the hub bit trimmed off) for the front axle. This meant I could put the wheels wide enough not to need to trim the steering arms. A lot stronger for a basher.
