Having won a 4x4x4 modified Wild Dagger on the bay over the weekend i have plans for it . The body will be replaced with a Blackfoot III body set . I like the idea of doing a Big Foot inspired theme or Awesome Kong . Retro Rules B) . Have a look in what have you done today for images of the win .

the only real issue is that body is short and a dagger has a much longer wheelbase than the BF body

The Blackfoot III chassis is effectively just a 2WD Wild Dagger chassis. The front gearbox assembly having been replaced with a "dummy" unit to presumably cheapen the the kit price. The bodyshell will fit just fine and look just like a Blackfoot III does. There's no issues there.

the wheel well openings will not match, they don't on a BF III either

Dagger is just over 11'' and a BF body is barely 10

I have to agree with you Eddie . Its THE same chassis so there are no issues .

There's another thread on TC here somewhere where the BF III chassis was shortened to match the wheelbase of the BF III body. The result of his modification is a huge improvement in looks over the standard kit. Just because Tamiya stuffed one re-issue body on another re-hashed chassis doesn't mean the two wheelbases match. DT02 Sand Rover is another example of a chassis too long for the body (and too wide).

The Blackfoot body was original made for the Frog (ORV) chassis and has ~240mm wheelbase to match. The BF III chassis is, as stated already, a 2WD version of the Wild Dagger which is ~255mm wheelbase.

The mentioned thread.

As the wife would say '15mm makes a differance' . With it being a Monster truck personally i dont think it will matter . Its not as though the bodys are a craftsmans fit on the 1.1 's

While waiting for the postman to deliver my win i've given some more thought as to the body i want to fit . Choices are

1. Blackfoot III re re

2. Blackfoot Extreme

3. King Blackfoot

4. Clodbuster

5. Proline 1972 Chevy c10 longbody- lexan

Its a question of what i can find for a reasonable price .

As for the wheels / tyres i'll be replacing the ones on it with something more ' monster truck ' looking . These will fit the bill nicely

on these rims

Anyone have any other idea's as to a body ? The look i'am after is Early monster truck/ mud plugger before they all became space frame .

I was concidering a Kamtec Dodge Charger for my KBF restoration but went with their Baja Beetle ABS shell in the end as Im broke & I figured it'd survive the roll overs better. If I had the budget I'd go for the BF3 complete body set melianw are selling on eBay, £60 all in!

Funny you should say that mate - thats my first choice when i have the funds . £60 is a lot for a body but if you price up all the parts its actually a very fair price .

Just out of interest i tried some Blitzer Beetle rears to see if they will fit and clear the hubs ect . Seem to work ok and i like the look of them . Plus side is that they bring the track in slightly and that will be helpful with the Monster tyres i want to fit - less stress in the axels . Being orange is also a advantage with the Theme i have in mind . All round a result saving time , money and some effort :D

According to Conrad, those tyres have an inner diameter of 62mm, whereas the wheels are 2.2" (56mm)

Proline Mashers would fit the wheels; http://prolineracing...ck-tires-masher

Dunno if Blitzer wheels are 2.2" though

 Doh . How on earth did i miss that !!!!!!!!!!!!! OK looks like plan B . Either bigger wheels or find some other tyres . Wonder if they would fit a 2.8 rim ?

Cheers Mate

I think i may have found a solution to the odd 63mm ID of the tires i want to fit . These look like they will do the job perfectly with a coat of paint to match the body - problem solved :Dhttp://www.blacksmit...uckWheel+Tyrex4

They look just like the wheels I just got for my sand rover? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250577591807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 .I still have to find a way of fitting a hex on the front, but they are good and the tyres aren't bad for the price. Is it here yet Bromvw?, when can we see some pictures?.Edit, ebay link not working, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250577591807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Their wider i think .The tyres might be sold on . Its here but not made a start on it yet . The mods have being done really well . The guy has basically fitted front lower arms and hubs to the rear . He's than fitted a rear servo by taking one apart and changing the direction on both servo motors . Both servos are hard wired together to give the 4 wheel steering . It works well . I might improve on the design but only slightly . I'll do some photos soon i promise . I know to some that sorting out what wheels and tyres to use as a starting point will seem odd but to me these are the most important part visually to get the monster truck look.

These are how it looked as bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230822174042?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Cheers Arron

AK II's shell looks better;

awsomekong.jpg

I'am inclined to agree . I'am just not sure exactly how a Blackfoot III shell will look on a Wild Dagger chassis . I dont want all the hassel of having to shorten it just to fit the body .

Well just lengthen the body then

Give the TD/WD wheelbase is 281mm and the Clodbuster is 280mm it might be worth looking at the Clod body - its not a million miles off the Awesome Kong either.
