Having cooked my ESC - dont ask
, i'am in need of a replacement dual motor ESC for a Wild Dagger . Whats the best Tamiya one to use or can you suggest an alternative for around the same price? I've seen some HK unbranded ones but i'am concerned about the quality and i think i'd sooner play it safe with a named product . Buying from the USA is out of the question due to the import dutys so that rules out a Traxxas item and i want to stick with brushed motors . Help please .

i have 2 amex/hsp twin motor esc's in use , haven't had a problem with them but i am not useing big motors with them , well in my dagger i run 55t motors .. the other thing to look at is the traxxas twin motor set up ( plenty on fleabay ) where you can run up to 14.4v volts through your twin motors .. the esc is semi -programable too .. i have one in my godzilla , no problems there ..
52 rc cars -- really out of room now .. gotta stop soon ! .

Most common options are the tamiya 103BK, mtroniks viper truck esc or traxxas evx2. The first two can handle 2 x 27T motors so nothing beyond sport tuned level. The traxxas allows single or twin battery packs up to 16.8v and can run 2 x Titan 550 (20T ?) motors.
There is probably an esc from Novak but you'd have to find a used one these days, Novak website very good with new and discontinued model info though.
Another option might be to buy a single low turn (eg 10T) esc to run two 2 x 20t motors from??

What motors are you running? I have an old Mtronics super E-truck (the 14v jobbie) running in 1 dagger(twin 20t 550's) and a parallel wired RV12 Assault in the other (twin sport tuned or twin 55t motors depending on where we are going), they work great.
Either of those or the Tamiya 103 from the Clods and later dagger chassis cars will suit it too.

As it arrived its running twin 27T Schumancher's. The RV12 Assult sounds as though it might be the solution as i may well go to twin 55T 's in the future . Dumb question but can you show me exactly what you mean by 'parallel' wired Tony ?. Other than that i think the tamiya 103BK is the favourite simply because its easy to get hold of here in the uk .

Parallel wiring is splitting the single motor wires into two - so two positives and two negaitves.
Series wiring would see one ESC leand to each motor and a single lead connecting the two motors
I think TAMark or Twinset explained this in another thread about twin motor wiring, probably in a Clod thread somewhere (ca 10 months ago ?)

a bit of topic but still , i have the rv12 assault and two stock 540s in my dual hunter , did all the other mods now its time for some faster speed . i already have the pinions so thats out . i know i can put two sport tuned motors in there but i would like something rebuildable or even cheaper than the black cans . any recommendations.

The TZ/BZ/RZ motors have advanced timing, so you'll need to reset the timing on one motor in the opposite direction to match the other. Rob Buckle has several Clod buster threads on this, and whilst he did a good job with the motor timing he soon got fed up of replacing brushes every few runs, and eventually went brushless (twin Castle SCT 3800kV)With an RV12 ESC you're in theory stuck with 24T motors and higher, although some 23T motors might be OK.Cheaper alternatives might have been Ansmann Launchers but the highest turn they do is 2 x 21T, they also do a Kenzo 23T drift motor which might be suitable but i've never looked whether this is built for revs or torque.I've dropped a lightly tuned into my Monster Beetle rebuild, and whilst listed as a 28T motor its got double the quoted tourque of a silver can and 30% more than the sport tuned. Motor turns isn't always a good indication of installed speed !?

Not all 23T motors are equal - i think you'll be on a knife edge with 2 TZ/BZ motors, maybe 2 Dirt Tuned would be a noticeable upgrade ?
The trouble with the Tamiya motor route is the cost - with TZ motors over £30 each these days its an expensive route !
Either find a lower / no limit ESC or stick to Sport tuned would be my suggestion

I know they get bad press on some forums, but i've used one or two Clash motors (lightly) without any issues - they are better than silver cans, but not sure they are as good as a sport tuned. Modelsport have eTronix 23T motors at/below sport tuned prices.
The Ansmann Launcher 17x2T motor i have in a Blitzer Beetle is very current hungry, so needs a good NiMH battery pack and i run that off a RV12 ESC. Lesser battery packs can't keep up with the current demands

All things considered i think i'll be ordering one of these and making up some Y leads . The spec fits the bill on all levels - Lipo , 12t limit and uk made .

The only thing I wish it was better with this esc is the brake control, I actually set it into forward mode ,as the fwd/reverse went into reverse too quickly
