I've got two kits. A DB01R and a Jun Hornet.

The DB01R was bought with the intention of racing it this year - weather has pretty much put paid to that idea!

The Jun Hornet was bought for my daughters birthday in November.

Do you guys think that both or either of these cars might appreciate over time? The Hornet probably won't get that much use anyway its just something for us to together over winter. The DB01R will be used but I'm wondering whether to keep it in the box and buy a 2nd hand buggy of some sort as and when I ever get to a track - B44, Lazer, Cat?

Thoughts?

Build the DB01R and race it, regardless of the weather. Just tape the body shut and put toilet paper in to stop any potential moisture from splashing into the electronics  Somebody at my club adviced me to do that and it works very well!

To an 11 year old girl the Jun Hornet is proper cool. :)

I've managed a get a Lazer FS at a decent price today so will either store or sell the 01R.

I would build the DB01R in a second but it sounds like you're already set on shelving or selling it. If you sell it I would be interested in buying it. pm if you do go that route.

Kits are made to be built. RTRs are made to be taken apart and rebuilt. It's the law :)
Growing older is compulsory, growing up is optional.

RTRs are made not to be bought! I've had two RTRs since I've gotten into the hobby, a Tamiya TL01 and more recently a Kyosho Ultima DB - both **** in their own way! The TL01's gearbox was already to shreds when I got it (it was a few runs old) because of the lovely soft aluminium pinion (and the TL01's lovely open pinion option holes on the right hand side). The Ultima DB was actually worse: More than half of it's screws are overtightened out of the box - mind you, that's not just the plastics, even the motor plate had stripped threads - the slipper was tightened fully but wasn't mentioned afaik, so I drove the spur gear to shreds after the third run - the rear tires were bald in three runs (and I did nothing crazy with it) - and if you include oil shocks, make sure they haven't leaked themselves up to being empty after those 3-4 runs (plus, their construction is crazily frustrating - replacing the o-rings is a pain so solving the leakage issue is nearly impossible).

If both cars are bought as a kit, pretty much all these problems could have been prevented.

Anyway, back on-topic: @EddScott: If you are not going to drive the DB01R, then sell it. Storing it makes no sense: That car more than any Tamiya is made to be loved by going to a track with it. It will have a lonely and depressing life on the shelf (those parts will keep wishing they become scratches, dirty and eventually cracked)! Besides that, the 01R I think won't have a lot of collector's value: That honour will go to the TRF cars once they grow older, and the DB01R doesn't have the looks or a quirky, memorable and loveable feel about it's design that makes collectors go wild...
