Found this on another forum, apparently they used a 1/4 scale mini cooper to bring the discus back B)

Might be a joke, but i thought it was cool :)

LOL! Looks like they used them for javelin returns too. There's other videos up of a fleet of them ferrying javelins back. Wonder what they used for a chassis under it.

Looks like a electric converted fg or similar chassis.

The Olympics must've had a contract with BMW! All the support cars during the cycling road race were BMWs and the mini used during the "British" opening ceremony wasn't the classic 60s English cooper but the modern BMW one. Concidering every other English stereotype cliche was in there I was supervised they got the wrong Mini!

That they did. They felt it was a good deal since BMW had a strong corporate image with their environmental sustainability and other things.

Makes me wish I had watched more discus and javelin events...

That's what they use - and the chassis under there is an FG Sportsline (1/5th touring car) chassis converted to electric :)

The only thing I don't see is why they wouldn't use slightly more ground clearance and softer suspension so the Mini can retrieve the athletes' gear with 65km/h instead of a crawling pace
