pininfarina 1009 Posted April 3, 2016 So here i will start a thread on my new journey with my 3D printed Designs for my loved hobby! The Mercedes C11 Sauber. I will be designing and printing lots of stuff for my RCs, and I will start from the Merceds C11 - parts to be produce, side mirrors, rear diffuser, engine grills, under stray, Air intakes, Exhaust, engine bay..etc After hours and hours of watching Youtube video. Spend the whole morning. went thru already 2 version of the rear wing mount. Tamiya has done very good job on the body and wing, but the wing height just isn't accurate i think, maybe they wanted to share the parts thru the group C and didn't bother. so here's my first draft! and my first attempt in 3D Design! Version 1.0 - 10 mins on 123D here is the first version. And the results after 1 hour of print! Similar height to the video clip.. was excited for the first time! measurement was perfect! couldn't believe the accuracy of 123D and the Cubicon Printer!! Then i started thinking and looking at the possibilities are endless... i am going to do the Diffuser!! with my new found skill and experience, i started and try to copy then draw a new Diffuser! here is what i put together from an existing diffuser! merged them together! and version 1.1 after the print failed... i had to re-inforced the side walls! It's really quick turn around to have the Print in hand and make changes... the print lasted 6 hours!! So wait a minute... I know i can do a better job and we are talking about accurate diffuser... so i decide to create version 2.0 all in a day!! the print out ! Version 2 looks way better!! another rear view! I am excited, I will be using carbon ABS when i'm satisfied with the end results. But i will continue to learn and print new parts of the C11 as my learning curve gets better?!! So in this Post i've modified the rear Wing Height and added a diffuser to the C11 all in a day works! Please comments and help to send me more photo of the underside as i am trying to locate the plans so that i can print an under tray! many thanks for viewing! Currently i am design a version 2.1 with adjustable Wing height and new Wing "L" mount will try to post them when the print finishes...!! Cheers! Tom
pininfarina 1009 Posted April 4, 2016 made a version 2.2 and please forgive my ignorance haha on aero dynamic, as i have none expertise... lol, i feel like a kid again!! I've made side vents too!! maybe a bottom invert Air Scoop to cool the motor Cheers!

Truck Norris 2237 Posted April 5, 2016 Anyone who's seen my recent builds will know that detail is what I'm really going for at the moment so this is right up my street. I don't think the technology is quite mature enough for me to want to buy one yet, and the weeks of waiting from Shapeways isn't ideal when your just experimenting. Definitely the future though! pininfarina 1009 Posted April 5, 2016 :-) Yes, it's definitely a good thing... playing with the the CAD as it's gets easier for me with more time spent on it! I am surprise by my own speed to pick up the CAD, it's now so easy.. and to think i've only just started using it for the first time last Saturday! Thanks for looking, i am drafting the side mirrors and front intake will post more when i get them printed. am going to do an engine mock up too if i find the right book.. lol cheers! pininfarina 1009 Posted April 8, 2016 Hi everyone, I am deciding if i should use carbon fibre plates for the side and front.... I have a 3 x 15 x 36 mm plate that i can use..... But if i do go for carbon fibre might as well go for the whole car..... as the component servo, esc and rx are really tiny and i could use a shorty instead of a full stick.... will need some time to ponder about it... but i do want to make use of the top exo frame... I will do a CAD design.. regards, Tom
