Yes, I'm doing another build thread... I must be losing my mind!

This is a Maisto VW Samba RC I purchased last christmas, and tossed the chassis because I wanted to use the body for something.
I have yet to know what this will turn into, but I do know it fits an M04L wheelbase perfectly, so I'm building up one of those for it. I ordered some rally tires, and have locked the diff so it should at least get by on semi rough off road.

As far as the shell? I'm going to attempt a weathered, ratty, rusty, junk bucket. Maybe a rally stripped down theme? Toss in a Willy? Roll cage? Plaid seats? Dunno yet... But it's going to be all or partially PERIWINKLE in color! haha
For those wondering, I've never done this before, just going to read online how to do things, and pretty much "wing it"... Haha....

Started on the body. Main problem is all the "fake" windows, had to dremel them ALL out. What a pain...
Also started some rusted away portions, and added some dents.

Inspired by TC member def4x4's awesome 2CV, I decided I needed to give one of these a go...

Being a big fan of most things French, and the fact that my French buddy's girlfriend had one of these, AND when I was hitchhiking through France in 1988, I was picked up by one of these.... it needed to be done.

Finding the body was hard, but def4x4 pointed me in the right direction and I was able to get this body shipped to California from Germany. I also wanted the realistic thin wheel, skinny tire look and took another page from def4x4 with the hummer wheels and 1/14 truck tires.

I'm not even sure what chassis I'll put this on, but most likely a CC01. This will not be a fast project, because I do have a lot of ideas that will take some time. I'm not a huge fan of lexan bodies now, but I will do my best to go over the top with what I normally do to lexan bodies... There will be details, and I plan on this being a low speed runner. (They are in real life anyway!)

I've found recently, that after getting into much more detailed builds, I much prefer the hard bodied kits, to lexan bodies.

While I have taken many lexan bodies to new levels with the use of styrene, lights, wood, etc, They just aren't as satisfying to me now. You can do quite a bit with a lexan body, but something about them just never seems as realistic.

I have tons of spare lexan bodies I guess I will eventually get used, and built up, but I find myself looking for new kits to buy that are hardbodied. I also am finding that I don't drive them as much due to not wanting to mangle the hardbodies in a crash.

I wonder if my thoughts will change as I get back into some lexan bodied kits... (I do have some great ones NIB that I have been avoiding).

Do you have a preference?

Ok, so I was convinced that I needed a trailer for my "Hugger Orange" Scania.
Reefer it is! (Just fun to say "Reefer") Will be matching paint colors to the Scania. I bought 12 cans of paint/clear/primer!
