Given that its been 70 years since Operation Chastise I thought I'd see what happened to the talked about remake the Peter Jackson was supposed to be producing. As you might expect its all been put on hold while he fiddles about with Hobbits and dwarfs but he assures Empire magazine that its a goer once Middle Earth is put to bed.
Can't wait to see how this remake turns out. It's about time we get to see the British doing something right in a war movie. The film production have constructed 10 large scale Lancasters for the new movie, I think I read somewhere they're 1/6 scale RC so that should be an amazing sight.

Seems a bit of a shame that most comments on the film sites refer to the bloody dogs name change?

Rancor Rebuild
28 April 2013 - 02:02 PM
Needed something else to distract me from my RC projects so I thought I'd start a thread on this to help keep me motivated.
Being a chap of a certain age (39 at the last count) I'm a bit of a Star Wars fan and have had many models and toys over the years. I bought this vinyl Rancor kit way back in my Warhammer years and painted him like a large miniature, if that makes sense. Since then he's been displayed, neglected and stuck in the loft, gradually loosing bits over the years. He did survive the big Sci-fi sale from a few years ago as I'm fond of the little guy. I've now decided to rebuild him properly and give him a better paint job that he deserves.
It'll take a while so this is the before pic, how he's come out of storage.

Originally he was superglued together and the gaps filled with milliput... and there's a lot of gaps! This time I'm using Araldite and green stuff for a stronger build. I'm planning to set him in the garden as the best gnome in England.
I'll keep you posted.

DT02 Rough Rider

This was originally an idea to cheaply replace my HB2010 body if it ever gets badly damaged, but with the recent Modelzone discount bargains I couldn't resist grabbing a Violet Racer and building this from scratch.
Its been a few years since my last DT02 build but the VR chassis went together quickly with just the usual bearings and pinion swaps.

One thing I did notice was the suspension arm pins that rust so easily were already looking pretty dirty BNIP! The price of cheap manufacturing?

Anyway I even remembered to grind down the right hand rear arm so it doesn't catch on the gear case and limit the travel.

A quick visit to the Kamtec eBay store and their Rough Rider lexan body was in my hands.

A few hours with the dremel and scissors and I had it sitting pretty good just by using the VR body mounts

I had wanted it to sit a little lower so I made a simple alum plate to bring the rear mount down apx 5mm.

Screwed to the body mount and bolted through the original holes in the shock tower it does the job nicely.

That's the antenna wrapped around the mount until I get the tube fitted. Now its sits just how I wanted it.

Just needed a little area removed to clear the gear case. The body already fits the tub just right so should help prevent it filling with debris. This should be a low and lightweight fast runner

Another cheap and easy mod that gives the DT02 quite a different look. Given their love for the chassis I'm surprised Tamiya haven't done this themselves?
Just need to clean up the lexan, fit the "Mickey Mouse ears" roof lights and get it painted.

Looking for the main tub chassis for a CC01 for a project. Doesn't matter if damaged or cut as i will be modding it heavily but I need the gear box area intact. Pics preferred please.

Source of 32 pitch gears in the UK?
20 March 2013 - 01:32 PM
Hi, just looking for some advice of where to by 32 pitch pinion and maybe spur gears in the UK? Ive had a search about but mostly they are located in the USA with crazy shipping costs (for example a crawling spur and pinion set priced at $10.99 came with a $42 shipping quote!!!)
My Axial Wraith was upgraded to 32 pitch by the previous owner and Im happy with the extra strength but he's fitted a "speed" set (14T pinion and 54T spur) after a little research I believe I need a 9T pinion and maybe a larger spur to bring the speed down and make it more of a crawler/trail runner. As it is now it kills 3000 mah batts quickly and over heats even a 50 turn motor.
So if you know of anywhere selling 32 pitch gears in the UK, Id appreciate the info.
Regards
