Also managed to break the other steering arm today. Lucky I got the parts. The original plasitc is just too brittle.

I replaced the motor with a stock Tamiya 540 and it seems to have a bit more grunt now. Also took it for a drive with a new Venom 3000mAh battery and it had a really good run.The stock motor will be a 540 brushed motor.
But compared to my mate's Desert Gator it was still really slow.
So what I need to determine is this model just a slow RC or is there something wrong?

Thanks guys,
Any ideas what the stock motor would be? It just say '50 Power' and 'Racing Engine'. I am guessing it must be a 380-sized motor or something.
Will look into brush-less. :-)

Hi! I really appreciate all your help so far and just to let you know I got it going today.
Here is where I am up too:
I received the part and replaced the broken steering arm. Then I put in the crystals from my old hornet and charged up the 1400mAh battery.
Took it for a test run today and seems to work fine. I am yet to give it a proper service, but I did notice that it isn't the fastest RC I have ever driven. Obviously the Hornet is pretty quick out of the box, and it is I have for a comparison, but I was expecting a little more speed. Saying that it was a lot of fun to drive. I did notice the Escort body scraping on bumps and assumed it was more of an on-road body. So I took the body and off and it handled some off road much better.
Would a simple engine upgrade do the job for a bit more speed?

I find the re-releases exciting! It means I can go a new classic for one of my kids, just like I used to have. (and still do).
