#498811 RC10 original gold pan re-release - RCCA july 2013

Posted by Wandy on 18 June 2013 - 11:49 AM

I honestly think the 2500 number is very realistic, I don't see demand being much higher than that for kits. The profit will be made on a spare parts programme lasting 3 or 4 years.

I also don't think they have had to retool that heavily. Cliff Letts stated quite clearly that most of the old moulds were still available. It seems the main part that had to be retooled is the chassis tub.

#498417 super sabre into hotshot ll ?

hi all , im after a bit of help here , apart from chassis , rear shock tower , and sway bar assy , whats needed for this change please ? thanks greatly in advance, shaun

In summary, quite a bit!

A&B parts, C parts, D parts, Body & Wing, Decals, Roof.

Body parts, decals & especially the D parts are very hard to source now. Even the roof, which features on the Super Hotshot, isn't easy to find.

Seriously....as soon as the first word of where to pre-order hits the net please let people know, even if it's been posted elsewhere on other forums. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and cannot be missed.

#496634 Your vehicles on display..

Posted by Wandy on 25 May 2013 - 11:29 AM

I now have more than 30 cars in my collection, most of them still unbuilt, but still have more built than I have space for displaying them without the room looking overcrowded and cluttered so I rotate them periodically when I get a bit bored of looking at the same models. I also have a growing diecast & Scalextric collection which demands some of the space too which doesn't help matters. :D

As you may notice, some of them are a work in progress.

Here's what I have on display at the moment..

#496365 what would you vote for greatest tamiya r/c model ever made?

Posted by Wandy on 22 May 2013 - 08:44 PM

There are so many variables that you will never get the same answer from everyone and we all have our own personal favourites mainly because of what we owned as youngsters. Out of all of the many choices I would actually say that their greatest release might just be the Hornet, down to the fact that it is great looking, reliable, near indestructable, easy to build and is probably their greatest ever seller. Not only was it a smash hit in the 1980s but the re-release has now been in production for over 8 years which is even longer than the original got. I would love to know how many Hornets have been churned out by the factory over the last 29 years.

And now Associated have commissioned someone to build a full size 1:1 RC10...seemingly for the up & coming RCX show.

This has got the smell of repeating Tamiya's effort, with the life size Scorcher built for the 2010 re-release, all over it. :)

I can't quite believe this, but exactly 72 hours after ordering mine it has arrived already from Japan. That is officially a new record for me, I wasn't expecting it till this time next week at the earliest. :D

More photos via Tamiyablog. And confirmation that original box art IS coming back, minus name change. :D

#495599 58577 Nova Fox

Posted by Wandy on 16 May 2013 - 09:46 AM

Fox or NovaFox, Super Shot or Super Hot Shot....why ?

Is this because collectors complain about re- releases affecting the value of their originals and Tamiya figure that re-re buyers will buy anyway ? In a sense trying to keep everyone happy I wonder.

If that was the case then all of the re-releases would have been re-named. Nah, it can only be down to a licencing issue. The names "Rough Rider", "Supershot" & "The Fox" must already be licenced to another company's product.

They don't give a monkey's about the possible sensitive feelings of the vintage collectors and, to be honest, I don't blame them either.

...we also renewed package.

Don't like the sound of that. Hope they just mean the name tag on the box art. I want original artwork & box size as per every other bona fide re-release.

There was no other information other than the photo I posted above. No wording whatsoever except for the "Team Associated RC10" in the top corner. Here's a photo from the digital issue on the iPad...Posted Image

I wonder if the Fox was actually released in Japan as the Nova during the '80s?

Shizuoka starts on the 16th so just under 4 weeks of more speculating. I love it that the info gets leaked early but the month long wait for the actual show to start so we can see the finished car is always a killer, lol.

Well, this wouldn't be the first time Tamiya initally digs out some photos of the original cars for re-releases, I think we had a similar case with the Mud Blaster II (shown with the original ORV-chassis instead of the WT-01 chassis), hadn't we?

They did the same thing for last year`s Wild One and Super Hotshot re-releases too.

Without a doubt that is a photo of the original, which suggests that the re-re will be identical with the exception of the decals having the word Nova in place of "The".

speaking of 'design faults' i wonder if we'll see an access door in the top chassis like we did on the hotshot and supershot re-re's.

That is a major possibility. Rear dogbones will undoubtably replace the original hex drives too.
