#490206 The $60 Sand Scorcher Tell me what I have exactly?

Posted by KEV THE REV on 01 April 2013 - 10:30 AM

If you look at the rear A arms ,the MK1 had 2 bearings in them , later chaged to 1 bearing to the outer , the MK1 servo saver was different also to the MK2 . Those MK1 front arms are very delicate and can break easily if run too hard , hence beefing them up on the MK2 . A great result for $60

#481878 Vintage Sand Scorcher Rebuild

Posted by KEV THE REV on 30 January 2013 - 08:39 PM

The Scorcher you have is a Mk1 which has many differences between the later 'Mk2' and certainly a lot different to the recent re-re Scorcher .Your rear gear casings have seperate 'ear type' rear cage lugs as opposed to a 'solid' rear bar for cage mounting and various other small differences .You could try filling that duff thread in with 'chemical metal'and re-tapping it to look cleaner than a bolt if it is going to be a display 'shelfer' ( a Mk1 should be due to the rarity of the original parts)Those oh so rare front arms are lighter ,thinner ,weaker castings than the Mk2 and re-re , and apart from looking 'odd' the re-re arms have different sized ball races to the original .The twin bearing rear arms are the mk1 original type too , very hard to get hold of but if you are going to run it the single bearing type will do .All in all ,you have a very nice Scorcher with the early and rare black bumper , a much sought after bug

#463609 electric contact grease?

Posted by KEV THE REV on 15 June 2012 - 07:39 PM

Hi Guys,
I am after some of your expertise and knowledge.
I currently am using standard Tamiya push connectors and the standard Tamiya battery connectors, I know there are better connectors out there but my soldering skills are weak to non existant...

Is there a gel or grease I can put on these connectors to improve the electrical connection between them and keep moisture out of the connectors without changing them?

I used to use copperease on my big car battery terminals, would this work on the small connectors too?

Thanks

you can buy Tamiya switch lube which enhances electrical contacts  - which was used on Tamiya MSC's

#463279 Buying empty boxes, filled with genuine 1980s Tamiya air.

Posted by KEV THE REV on 12 June 2012 - 09:28 AM

I have a loft and cupboards full of kit boxes - some are mint new with just the contents removed and some are well used and some in between, and of course most have full kits in them, but I can't resist the kit box / body set box etc. When I say to people that I collect boxes they think I'm mental - well maybe I am , but who cares? .I use some of them to store cars or spares in , - cool eh?
