This is my new doomsday machine! A seriously hopped up Re-re Hotshot. This came from the car in the bottom link, and it's now an Evo II :-) The mono-shock nonsense looked cool but performs very poorly...

The steering rack is custom made, for zero bumpsteer http://www.ymr.no/10orTip8.htm

It sports an INIX 8,5 turn brushless system, with a very practical programming card. It wasn't easy to cram that big ESC with a fan into the radio box, but I managed to do it after a lot of tinkering :-) For more details check out the above link about the custom steering rack. There's a 15p steel Traxxas pinion, plus alu motor mount shims from MadInventor (the plastic ones have a tendency to crack).

The shocks are TRF shocks, and feel super smooth. I tried some 3Racing shocks, but I didn't find them good enough. Too much slop AND binding!

I was planning to make the front bumper myself, and had bought some Kydex sheets. But then I saw this JG front bumper on the bay, and opted for that. It even had a red sticker stating 'New' :-) Quite interesting the name actually! John Gudvangen - that sounds VERY much like a Norwegian family name! John is not very Norwegian, but Gudvangen for sure is! It's like taken out of Flaaklypa Grand Prix! My guess is this is a descendant from a Norwegian family that emigrated to the US in 1800 (a lot of norwegians did back in the day)... anyone know more about this guy? Some googling actually gave some answers: http://california.14thstory.com/john-gudvangen-manufacturing-inc.html

Looks like he went out of business in 1987, and it can still be found online!

A Supershot skid plate is also mounted. It fits perfectly together with the JG bumper, catering for a perfectly even underside!

There's also the CRP thick fibreglass battery tray which stiffen things up a bit.

The front shocks are now more lay-down. This is done by swapping the alu mounts right/left. MadInventor has made the nice support alu rod for me, for more durability. In the rear the shocks are mounted with a std. Superhot fibreglass shock mount + lower hardware.

The rear shock mount forces you to get rid of the cool resistor cooling ribs. But they can easily be mounted where the rear sway bar normally is mounted. They look so cool they should be kept on!

I found the car too right heavy, due to the motor sticking so far out to the right. The battery is off-center, but with the lighter LiPo battery this doesn't help that much. So I added 3x17 grams of stainless steel to the left side of the battery. Plus 2x17 grams at the left side of the radio box. It now feels much better!

It has a front suspension brace from SynchroCNC (ebay) to tighten up and reinforce the front suspension.

Wings: The front wing is from the TeamXtreme Predator X11. It mounts easily on the front roll bar holder. The rear wing is a JConcepts 7' wing.

(More info can be seen on the Evo I version)

Hope you like it! I'm very satisfied with the pictures! I think they look kinda 'dramatic'! :-)

Update 29.1.2014: The car is now ready for the 4WD class in the Nordic Vintage Challenge in Eskilstuna, Sweden 1st february 2014. It's now got a Inix brushless ESC, BlueBird MG servo and a LRP 13.5 turn B/L motor. Tires converted into slicks (for indoor racing) and adjusted to very little droop, hard springs and dampening (to limit roll). The class is for pre 1995 cars. Should be good fun!

1 Not to be messed with... 1 Pretty sleek huh? :-) 1 1 I can't see a thing... 1 1 1 All you'll ever see is my oOple logo... 1 An aura of F1... 1 1 Some pics of the details

Good question! I think I posted that question some years ago, but never got an accurate answer. I think it's made up from car/buggy+people. The 'oO' looks like a car seen from the side In any case, it's the best RC website in the world. Along with RedRC!

Looks really sweet. I too like the Lucky Strike livery. Your details are nice and I like the white paint scheme. I do wish the pics were better though, they are crisp but a lot of details are getting lost in the background. I would suggest a contrasting background for photos.

Top class! I'm going to buy the re-re Hotshot very soon, despite not being a buggy man. Your model inspired me after I found it on a different site a few weeks ago whilst doing some research, although it's prior to the shock conversions and with a bigger black wing. (Are the TRF dampers from the DF-03?) I plan on doing something similar with this model myself. The white body looks so good combined with those black dish wheels; much better than the original scheme! Keep up the great work!

3-Feb-2011

*blush* Thanx again guys! It's probably the star of my collection so far! I can't run it until spring... it's full winter here now, with polar bears roaring outside But I'll for sure compare some laptimes with my AE B44. Will be on 100% astro, so I'll mount some Schuey Mini Spikes for max. traction. Will also give an even more aggressive look! This car was all along mostly an experiment to see how fast this old basic chassis could go with some modern upgrades! I'll check out those UJ! I know the pics are dark, some are even photoshopped darker after the pics were taken. I just wanted it to look like a predator lurking in the shadows... But I could of course have included a couple with white background. The last pic at least show some bright close ups of the details. If you like cars like this, you must check out this site!!! [Click here] and [Click here] I may be Anakin at my best, but this guy is Yoda de Luxe!!! My jaw dropped when I first saw his work!!! Btw does TC stand for Totally Cracy?...

Wow, very nice hotshot! I like the front wing! Is it noticable when driving (if you do drive it that is, it has the looks of a shelf queen so I wouldn't have the guts to drive it)

WOW, this is PURE PORN. I am in love, my wife is very angry with you. The 'Tamiya 101' thing unfortunately won't be an option for this as it is a RE RE, but essentially, it is another site that concentrates a lot of its energy on the FIRST 100 kits. The original HotShot would fit into that group, but the RE RE doesn't as do most of the other RE RE. They are not being snobbish, just a kit number activated option inside the TC code. I have a project in the same vein of this on my radar. I have dubbed it my DreamShot, but I don't know when I will get it assembled. I better get to it soon.

Thx for the info! Nice page! Good luck with the DreamShot!

Hi awesome car its inspired me to make my own version.Im wondering how you used the wide hexes with the origional outer cups? Or did you have to use special wide ones? if so what were they off? Awesome work

SHY69

1-Jul-2013

Thx! Not 100% sure I understand your question. But you can't use the orignal rims with those hexes, you need for instance Tamiya 501 wheels.

You are a serious racer! This front damper set up is a really intelligent and creative solution.
