description  Here are just a few of my photos that show my taking apart, cleaning...

...and 'servicing' - of a 1950's Taycol 'Double Special' 12volt model boat motor.

This is the most powerful version of the 'big daddy' Taycol that Roger eluded to in his comment on this page -

http://tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=112457&id=6167

...and also the eventual reassembly - with parts put back the correct way about...!

The person who last had this in bits did not know what they were doing !

No power tools are used - only an old toothbrush - and an old coarse-weave rag...

...along with Autosol metal polish - and a few yellow dusters.

Oh - and LOTS of elbow grease !

Everything must be kept in order - these motors were all hand built...

...and so none are exactly the same - and all have their little idiosyncrasies.

The COIN in the picture - is a TEN PENCE - not a 5p !

24.5 mm diameter... almost an inch !

EVERYTHING must be cleaned and used again - the bolt threads are Whitworth...

...you cannot easily go out and get new nuts for the motor bolts...!

To see all the photos that I took - in order...

...see -

Now - it is GLEAMING... and will take pride of place inside a BIG new model boat which I will build for it...

...in a 'classic style' !

I don't have as many as that to do...

The two Supermarines that are NIB need no polishing...

... and I think I may leave two or three as they are - to preserve their original patina...

It looks so much 'of it's time' I can just imagine a slight smell of pipe smoke with it real craftsmanship, very nice.

Thanks for the comments...

No Neil, not with this - it worked before I cleaned it up... now it works GREAT !

I am just 'renovating' a 'basic' Supermarine motor - which ran intermittently - I am 'rewiring' the brushes in that one...
