Only once I saw a truck like this one. The sporty 1979 Toyota pick-up that Tamiya based the model they released late in 1981.
Obviously, the main difference between this one and the model truck, apart of the body color, would be the serious lift job this one has. It's been lifted about 10', which is a lot for a street legal pick-up. The swamper tires are 38inchers.
Other thing that always called my attention from the model truck is the lenght of the rear axle. I still don't know the reason for that, but I suspect it was something Tamiya needed to do to fit the sealed electronics compartment. And if the later Bruiser model had it too, must have been just beacuse Tamiya was not willing to design a new rear axle. I dunno, but I sure would like to know more about that. Plus, I have never seen a 1:1 pick-up truck with such difference between the front and rear axles. What do you think, guys?

Wicked looking Truck!
I wonder how well this did in that snow?

@MAD-BEE: By the tires it has I'd say it goes better on mud. Snow is rather complex for any truck.

Good real car reference. Different with the stepside box, rather like the original hilux.
On the axles, T got this one wrong from the beginning, but I think it was done for stability reasons as these RC trucks could be rolled easily at higher speeds. Unbelievably, the Bruiser re-re has the same issue.

Nice Step-Side. Just place the original Hilux body on a Bruiser chassis and it'll look just like this.

very cool, I really like flare side pickup trucks like this because you don't see them as often in real life, I've never seen a real Toyota Flare side except the odd picture like this but wow if I went looking to find an old Hilux truck it would have to be this version, thanks for sharing the pics

Very nice truck. But toyota never offered there trucks in a step side. That bed must be a fiberglass kit someone made or bought for this truck. Or somehow modified a chevy step side bed. I found an 81 toyota which was the last year for the solid front axle. Trying to get it off the guy. Would love to build a 1:1 mounty. But with so many other projects I now have it will probable never happen.

Very nice hilux with that rear bed. If i see those axle´s i´ve never thought they where from a real truck like that, they look so thin!!! I see here more new Tundra´s in real then the old shool Hiluxe´s, that to funny!

@Toykid: Pehaps you will be able to make a scale version of this one?
