At last! My little brother-in-law's 1st buggy and it's a G'Hopper! It was love at 1st sight for him as it was utter fun to drive. When I tested the car (also a 1st time in over 20years) it was utter nostalgia - the squealing of the tyres, that bouncy suspension like squirrel on steroids! Simple stats: Ball bearings, started with RS380S but lil bro got bored quickly (since he's got a touring car) so went straight to RS540 power. Next is to upgrade to the Hornet suspension...

Great green buggy. I particularly like the photo of it in action.

What a Great place to start, it was a Grasshopper got me going back in 87. Course I wish it had been such a nice green
JWeston
Very nice. What wheels are on that Frog?

@ ALL: Thankyou gentlemen and I can only say one thing, when I drove her for the 1st time in over 20years I was laughing like a little school girl as I saw the Hopper bouncing around with the tranny shaking made me feel like a 7year old again. And seeing the little boy heaps more delighted hooning with it more than his much quicker TF5 touring says a million words about getting the formula right from day one.
sunnyjai
@ JWeston: Thanks JW and yes the golden question regarding the Frog - keep you posted on my next upload, 'the Frog', then thou shall be enlightened! Lol

awww the old grasshopper now that brings a happy tear to my nostalgic eye.... my 1st ever was the grasshopper and pretty sure every collector on this site had one or used some ones during the golden 80's. I have two re-re's one for running one for the shelf (almost finished) and love the simple design and boy they are tough!!! sure the little brother-in-law will run this for a long while and will eventually progress but fast forward 20 years or so from now and sure he will be rescuing this from a dark attic or box and re-living his youth like we do now.... maybe with a re-re of the re-re? that my friend is the magic of tamiya..... ps love the green
sunnyjai
@ hot rod: Here here a toast to that!
Mincemeat
That looks Great! YOu should add it to the Tamiya Kids SIG
sunnyjai
@ Mincemeat: Thanks Stefan! And thanks again for letting me know about the SIG. Cheers
Grumpy pants
Nice job SJ. The grass hopper probably should have been green from day one and it looks good. Great idea getting relatives on side with the whole R.C Tamiya vibe as well.
sunnyjai
@ Grumpy pants: Thanks buddy! It's good that we the old chaps can still get the new generation youngsters into the hobby especially in the age of computer games and such. R/C was pretty much the closest thing to hi-tech back in the days. The vibe very simple, I thank Tamiya for that. Did you know that it didn't take long for the little one to decide his buggy - he chose the G'Hopper! The slightly older 11yr old was given many options but instead he chose the Hornet as his buggy pretty much says it all about the lure of these iconic buggies! Cheers
RACECRAFTERS
Sunshine, we seem to have similar tastes! I have both of these too and they look far better built and running. You have done a preemo job on that green meanie but I'm now anxious to see the one in the back ground!
sunnyjai
@ RACECRAFTERS: Thankyou Mr.Mallo! Great crazy minds do think alike and keep posted for the baby seen hiding in the background pretty soon!
