Thought I would give the drift spec TT-01 a try and she's a bit of a hoot. It's based on the TT-01E but with the following additions:-

    Sport tuned motor

    CVA Oil filled shocks

    Motor heatsink

    Ball race bearings (except steering)

Drift spec (adjustable) upper A arms.

    Drift spec (rock hard) tyres.

As always with the TT-01, she's a doddle to put together with no issues cropping up during the build. Because the supplied ESC (105BK) doesn't support lipo cut out (and I don't trust myself not to drop the voltage too low when running) I binned the supplied motor and ESC and replaced them with an Etronix 10T brushless combo I had in my spares. Way too much power for a drift spec car but it'll do for now.

I plan on swapping the motor back out for the 15T HPI Firebolt brushed motor and 15T Etronix ESC that I'm currently running in my TT-02 when Tamiya finally get round to releasing a metal main propshaft.

Needless to say that you have to be very gentle with the throttle which makes controlled drifting trickier. As the TT-02 is out of action for the minute (waiting for a new front hub to be delivered from Hong Kong), I may swap the motor over sooner rather than later. The propshaft in the TT-02 seems considerably more resistant to flex compared to that in the TT-01 so it may be that the TT-02 can handle more power by default than the TT-01 without the need to upgrade the propshaft.

Ok; The brushless system was just way too much. You had to be so light on the throttle that cogging becomes an issue. Thus I've dumped the brushless combo for another project and have fitted my favourite brushed combo of Etronix Probe WP ESC and HPI Firebolt 15T motor.

What a difference. I can really see me getting into drifting, it's an absolute hoot! I would have stuck with the supplied sport tuned motor if only Tamiya would support Lipo cut off out of the box.Whilst getting the new engine and ESC I bought myself a Lipo cut off to keep in my spares and might use the 105BK and Sport tuned motor in another project.

Have just fitted a neon light kit and it's highlighted that the gold paint job needs to have a backing coat applied. Not only are the neons bleeding through but you can see the mounting pads for the lights and control unit. Thus my weekend job (weather permitting) is to address this issue. In addition, I'm going to swap out the brushed firebolt motor for the sensored brushless motor from my TT01 basher. I'll put the sensorless brushless that I originally fitted to this car into the TT01 basher and the firebolt will move to the M05 (mini cooper)

Inbetween the gales and rain (typical British summer) I've managed to apply a silver backing coat. I'll take some shots tonight when it's dark to best show off the LED neon kit.

Updated photos to add neon LEDs. Sweet! Got red set for my Yokomo D1 drift package (my next build)
