Project Bel-Ray Bullet done! - Sold
Hello fine people!
Well, it took some time but I think I'm finally done with this project that started a looooong time ago.
It was pretty much finished a while ago, but Toykid's motor on Shapeways was the icing on the cake that this car needed.
Lots of mods to a Tamiya's Rough Rider to turn it back into the buggy that was the inspiration for this classic; can you spot them all? ;-)
Enjoy!
If you liked those pictures, you should see these...

cracking work and worth the wait , you must be well pleased with yourself , you should be
SRB Bloke
I can spot loads and one in particular
That is the best RR any of use have ever seen. There are so many great parts to it. I love it. I know I need to shut up and just look at the pictures but I can't. Truly amazing, I'd love that on the shelf to see everyday.
Sayroll
Thanks a lot, these words mean a lot to me!
@SRB Bloke: Steve, a huge thanks to you for those rear tires.
MAD-BEE
That's not bad!
Eleck_Rider
Now that's the way to do it. Absolutely wicked.
ScaleXtreme
That looks splendid! How did you narrow the rear wheels ? By just trimming the rear piece ?
Dirt-540
Awsome! Absolutley beautiful! Fantastic work and great scale detail.
Sayroll
Thanks!
@ScaleXtreme: I used a regular rear outer wheel part, a regular front inner wheel part. The center part is a modified rear one. I narrowed a rear set of tires but I wasn't able to glue them strongly enough for them to hold and that's where SRB Bloke came and saved the day!
Lowrider 172
Awesome work. Well done
Basket Case
Fabulous!! Very, very well done that man!!
Skottoman
Wow! So many details that are so amazing… The contrast of colors, the shock covers, the narrow rear wheel, the body modifications, the engine, the exhaust, the screens, the number plate the bumper and skid plate, the lettering, the side rails, the decals, the fuel door and hose, the taillights, the addition to the roll cage…… Just amazing, and one of the best RR/BC I've seen. Seriously.
beefmuffin
this is incredible
Crash Cramer
That is GORGEOUS, I can't spot them all, but I sure can see a lot of different things on this that were never on the Rough Rider. I guess now I know where to send my Beetlelover hyper detailed rear lights so that they will be used and appreciated. Very nice work there.
BeetleOne
Amazimg! Really awesome job! Run it carefully please!
Meakz1973
This is incredible. Very very well done! I must have read every tutorial on modding the side pods but still cannot master it. This is pure inspiration to try again. Also, your photography skills are 1st class!

Always been a love hate for me on the RR but i can definitely say that this is a love moment. Great work, looks amazing.
RallyeBaz
That is stunning. Top work
DerbyDan
Absolutely stunning - there's some rear talented 'modellers' here on T.C for sure! You've managed to not only replicate the small details on the original car but successfully replicated its slimmer & lighter looking proportions that makes this model look so convincingly real! P.S; had you spotted this thread over on TheSamba.com - looks like Bud & Malcolm are still racing the old-girl! [Click here]
Sayroll
Thanks!
@DerbyDan: thanks for the link. No, I didn't know this thread but I knew that the Bullet was still racing. Cool pics of Funcos that I had never seen before!

That is just awesome. Best on TamiyaClub!
Volksrod
Absolutely love it! Just seen a picture of a standard RR on Thesamba and god does it look poor compared to the lines on this! Only thing i'd change is the rear track width, maybe use double bearing rear arms, and cut the outer bearing section off and shorten the axle to bring the wheels in? But gotta say, i'd love it here as it is Top job.
swedishwiking
Ouch, that one hit me like a sledgehammer! That´s what the RR should have looked from the beginning. FANTASTIC model!
Sayroll
Again thanks!
@Volskrod: You pointed precisely one the few things that bother me on the final result. I thought exactly to this mod, but I don't think I have the tools and talent to do it. And finding double bearing rear arms is not easy...I have to check my Super Champ as it might have those parts on it. Well, maybe it's not really finished!
howitzer71
Just Fantastic work!!! Awesome!! The last real life pic is epic!!!!!!!
ModifiedMan
Wow!!!! Absolutely stunning RR and the best one I have ever seen!!!! Straight to my favs!

Sayroll

Elle bute bien, wonderful!
Makes me envious of Tamiyafans
Steph33
Elle est merveilleuse! C'est une oeuvre d'art! Bravo
Ruddy love this RR. A thing of beauty. Currently about to start building my own. Would you mind telling me where you got the solid rims from please. Are they Sand Scorcher wheels..? Also…do the double dampers at the back actually work ok together….. or is this just for the “shelfer”… original real buggy look? Thanks
Sayroll
Thanks, wheels come from Pargu webstore but they are Rough Rider size (1'7) instead of the 1'5 from the Sand Scorcher. Also the rear have been modified as well as the tires. And yes, the double dampers are fully functional.
