Interesting modifications made

I purchased this as part of a lot along with a few other kits. I really didn't know what to expect when I purchased it. The seller indicated that he had done some chassis hop-ups but never used the car. I believe the original kit may have been used and then restored with a new shell (I received the boxes as you can see from the pics). Any insights on the chassis would be appreciated.
