Over the years I have made the odd mistake whereby I sold one of my RC items to fund another project but then soon after regretted it, and one such occasion was with this rare piece, the Sand Scorcher XB finished body.

When it was first released in 2011 I hummed and hawed about getting one because they were not cheap, with a price tag of over  £100. Eventually I bit the bullet when they were temporarily offered at a discount price of  £80, and I have to say that when it arrived I was very impressed with the finish.

In late 2012 though I needed to generate some quick funds and decided that, since I actually have an original Scorcher body just waiting to be painted, I could afford to let the XB version go, and I did make a huge profit on it, selling it for  £161 on ebay.

Recently though, with me having a huge pile of projects on the go, and no time to paint the original body, I have been missing being able to admire a nice box-art Scorcher on my shelf so started to look for another XB. As I suspected though, they are now pretty much extinct, but as luck would have it I noticed that Modellbau-Siedel were still listing the odd one from time to time. I'm not sure where they were getting them from but I'm not complaining.

Anyway this replacement was far from cheap at  £121 delivered to my door but taking into consideration the fact that I have paid  £201 for two of these things over the years - but clawed back  £161 from the sale of one of them - then this works out at paying  £40 for a XB Scorcher body, painted to a very high standard IMO. Not a bad deal. :)

Difficult to find, to say the least. Modellbau-Siedel to the rescue though. Really nice standard of finish. Shame about the decal on the rear fender though. Looks to have been clear coated too. Just fit the supplied mirrors and away you go.

I purchased one of these for the very same reasons as you Wandy. Quality is top notch and at least I can have a mint B'Art Scorcher just as it appears in the catalogue. Nice catch Mate!

Cheers Mallo, I should never have sold the first one that I had but thankfully have been able to rectify the mistake. Yeah, the quality is superb and probably better than anything that I could do as painting aint my greatest skill..!

If only ALL our mistakes were so easily rectified.

Nice buy! And yes these will be future classics as did the vintage version did but with a difference - it's 'factory finished' and being Tamiya their RTR body sets are built to a high standard.

Cheers sunny, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of finish.

I can say that even a relatively easy paint job done to the M-02 version Beetle is of a very high standard as well as all those pesky decals have already been placed for me. I am very happy with its fit and finish and the mirrors are very delicate, so I have to remind myself to handle with care. Now if only I had bought a factory finished Castrol Civic. :O

Not in stock at the moment at Seidel. I will get a notification when it is available again. I am still too chicken to make a box art version myself.

Repoman, I did the exact same thing and waited for the email notification. It took about two weeks before another one came back in stock and I have watched them go out of stock and then come back in 3 times within the last 6 weeks or so. I bought mine exactly one week ago so hopefully you might get an email from them in the not too distant future.

Cheers MAD-BEE...yes, quite a tidy score! I couldn't believe it when the first one that I had sold for £161....but that's how much they can fetch because of their rarity. This one definitely won't be getting sold though.

These are great bodys & i have one as well for the shelf . But at $160. US $ , is not cheap . I was lucky & the aussie $ was way better than the US $ . But it tooktwo to three months , Before i hit the BIN button ... I was going to get another one , but didn't , Your a Very lucky man to have got another one , let alone in the end costing you 40 pounds . Now don't sell this one or you could & see if the next one cost you nothing  .

Thanks matman but I wont push my luck. A £40 score will do me just fine.
