Nexxt Please!
Ohh Look its wldnas come out of hibernation again?????
Yes it’s me back again, and I know that it’s been yet another long hiatus the main reasons being lack of disposable income to buy new cars and since last May I’ve gotten into collecting something else…. Transformer Toys, Yes I’m now a Raving Mad Dog Transformer collector, and I now spend most of my spare cash on Plastic Crack, remember how mad for RC collecting I was about 10 years ago, well the collecting bug has bitten me again and I’m as bad now as I ever was back then, Why Transformer toys I hear you ask…? Well they are Cheaper to buy for the most part, and they are smaller and easier to display, I have never been able to display any of my RC cars cos I just don’t have the space but TF’s are quite easy to show off, just put up a few narrow shelves and wholla!!! Anyway enough of that, I better get back on topic else the TC moderators will delete this post saying it’s not in keeping with the spirit of RC cars…..
So what all this why Have I suddenly reappeared? Well I have just bought a Brand new RC cars that’s what , now the reasons behind this particular purchase are quite interesting, about 7-8 years ago I had to take out a partial mortgage on my parents’ home, the main reason to release some cash from it to pay for some hip operations for my dad and it was a cheapish way for me to get onto the first rung of the property ladder, anyway the Mortgage was for a third of the house to the value (back then) of £50,000 so I set up the mortgage and it put paid to £400 per month of my wages which was basically the majority of my disposable income that I used to use to buy RC cars, so that was the principle reason why I was forced to stop RC collecting, I have over the years come into some money here and there and bought a couple of things but it’s nothing like the good old days of buying 4-5 cars a month, spending over £ 4-500 in the process, and that was that, I’ve sat on my collection, every now and again I might go up into the loft where it is stored and do a few bits on some cars that need work doing to them, but for the most part it lays dormant and gathering dust….. However this may be about to change cos last week Me and my Mother (Sadly my Father passed away last November after suffering from Vascular Dementia for many years) anyway me and Mum went upto the Coventry Building society and Redeemed my Mortgage!!!!! Paid that sucker off, and good riddance, I did still have until about 2027 to pay it off but thanks in part to Will money from my dads passing and with a little help from my Mum we were able to pay it off early, HAPPY DAY!!
So what does this mean for me, my disposable income and RC car collecting??? A very good question it has to be said, well the mortgage accounted for £330 a month and for this month at least I got that money back and as a little celebration for getting rid of the Mortgage I decided to Buy an new RC car, now I have had one that I’ve been looking at for some time, the Kyosho Nexxt, it’s a futuristic looking buggy that is based upon the Sand Master chassis, yet it has a totally different body and new wheels and tires, now last time I had some spare cash to buy cars this was on my list of cars to get but that time I bought a Kyosho Ultima DB, Tamiya Zahhak and a Limited Edition Suzuki Jimny wheelie, I also have a Kyosho Sandmaster that I bought a couple of years ago, but I did want to get one of these cos to me it just looks sooooo darn cool, so immediately after I’d been onto my online back to cancel the Mortgage Direct Debit the next thing I did was go onto Ebay and buy one of these RTR for £99.99, now this car is discontinued Kyosho have stopped making it, but there are still enough unsold stock around to pick one up for a decent price, it comes in three flavours, Blue, Green and Orange, for me it just had to the Orange one cos it just the bright colour suits the futuristic body style so well, plus the other colours look so drab by comparison, anyway I did a Buy-it-now on this puppy and it arrived today.
So what’s my first impression? Well as I said I have the Sand master already which this car shares the same chassis from, and like the Sand master this car has all the same problems that car had, chief amongst which is the amount of play and slop in the suspension components, all the wishbones and hub carriers slide back and forth on their pivot pins, and this makes the whole car loose and wobbly, after unboxing it I charged up a battery pack and took it foir quick test drive in the street, it’s quite a nippy little car, the futuristic lug type pattern tires grip quite well on tarmac, it suffers from power understeer just like most Rear wheel drive cars, but for the most part the handling isn’t too bad considering how wobbly and loose the suspension is, add to that the other glaring issue with this car, its only fitted with plain spring dampers (no Oil shocks) and it bounces around all over the shop, I ran the car for a few minutes and was moderately satisfied with its stock speed and grip characteristics and took the car back indoors so that I could rip the suspension apart and insert shimming washers into the pivots for the major suspension components to dial out the excessive play, I have done this before with my Sand Master that had exactly the same issues, it took a while to sort it all out, there are still a few areas that could do with some more work, the thing that gets me about this is that back in the day Kyosho cars were always well sorted for build quality and suspension tolerances, even on their basic entry level cars you threw em’ together from a kit and it would all work properly without any issues of play on the suspension, but this is second budget car I’ve had from Kyosho of recent years and the build quality has been shocking, if the Kyosho Bosses for the 1980’s could have seen the sort of products that their company is palming off in this day and age I’m sure they would have fifty fits, it is quite frankly inexcusable!
Anyway apart from that it’s a great car ;) I just love the futuristic aesthetic to me it kinda looks a bit like the Warthog off Halo, so if you painted it olive green and mounted a machine gun on the back it would look more the part, the bazaar wheels and tires are another feature of this car that I adore, the treads extend around the shoulders of the tires onto the wheels, it’s quite an unusual design, however I don’t think it works particularly well on all types of terrain? I have seen a lot of pictures online of other people’s cars and they have fitted different wheels and tires in almost every case, I would however like to try this car on a beach as the wide lug pattern should work just like a sand paddle tire and provide traction on the loose stuff? Perhaps one day I will get the opportunity to take some of my RC cars to a beach for a day, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do but never gotten around to it, so anyway that the Kyosho Nexxt my latest acquisition, now that the mortgage is finished it doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m going to be resuming full scale RC collecting? Ohh No, as next month I will start paying a monthly standing order into my mums bank account to help pay for the house hold bills, but I will be getting back around £200 odd pound a month in disposable income so buying RC cars isn’t out of the question, the thing is I need to feed my Transformer collecting habit as well and it’s the dominant collection at the moment, so my RC collecting will have to remain on the back seat for now, there are a few cars that I have seen that I would like to buy, for instance that Tamiya Limited Edition White Dark Impact, I loves the look of that thing, so I might be able to buy the odd car now and again if I put a bit of money to one side, who knows?

I've shimmed out most of the excessive play in the suspention and it does drive a little better now, I've also been on EBay again and ordered a set of hop-up oil shocks for the car that should improve the handling still further, I'm also planning on painting the Driver figure at some point

I've, got one of these too. Just love the look. Its like a cross between a Baja and moon buggy. You will have to let us know how the oil shocks improve it. As the standard ones are way too soft.
