Tamiya were really delivering some pleasant surprises when it came to the re-releases when this kit was announced. Just a little earlier they brought back the Super Champ when nobody was really expecting it and then they did the same with the return of Willy's Wheeler. Ok, so this one is merely a 'tribute' re-release due to the modern chassis it uses but they got the important details spot on, with the return of the original body, wheels and tyres....parts that were incredibly difficult to find and hellish expensive if you did.

Although there are already reports of problems with the manner in which the body sits on the WR-02 chassis, I really think that this could be the beginning of a new craze at the vintage meetings & events. Just imagine specific 'Wheeler' races, with loads of these things on the grid, painted up in a variety of colour schemes. It would be superb.

I think this one will be around for a long time, they will sell loads of them, and they will have the same cross-genre appeal as the Lunch Box. Here's hoping anyway. :)

A warm welcome back for another in demand classic. A lovely, chunky box with awesome artwork. A new style of packaging arrangement with this one Used to be rare. Now set to be as common as muck. And these were absolute gold dust! Willy gets more power too. But can he handle it? Let's ask him... :) The new ride for his Wheeler....in bits. A perfect match? Only time will tell. These might be a challenge to fit....

I hope you are right about the last bit, especially given the potential for fun - and needs for spares Hope you enjoy the build!

Enjoy the build mate! If like mine you could have to trim the front arches about 1mm you don't notice it and if you want it to pop wheelies you may have to glue the back tyres on! And its a hoot to drive!

Cheers guys...yes I have heard that the arches need to be trimmed. A little disappointing that mods have to be made just to allow it to run without a hitch, but it seems to a relatively simple fix.

Great choice of kit. It is going to be very, very popular imo.

You know, the more I read about the arches, the more it takes me back to the M-05 re release of the Mk1 VW Golf on that platform where the body really NEVER seemed to work as great as the original.
Where I was thrilled at the prospect that Tamiya put out a FWD chassis for it finally, they restricted the types of tires you could put on it as well as not really getting the wheelbase close enough to look great. It was a matter of a half asleep attempt ad putting another body in the M mix for folks I guess, but it didn't quite work for me and I shelved the body I had and built the M05 for the CRX which it DID fit nicely. Better luck next time Mr. T

I've given in and ordered mine online Saturday. Can't wait to see loads on the track at the next Snetterton RC meet in June
