This is my addition to the 'modern budget three-speed' movement. In this project, I tried to build a classic American work-and trail truck for less than $150. It is basically a Grasshopper and a Hornet bolted together, with the Grasshopper axle converted to steering operation (you cannot imagine how difficult this was). The shocks are mounted on steel chassis rails that run the length of the chassis, with the electronics mounted between the rails. The body is a Parma Chevy Stepside -I give you one guess what inspired the paint job- with a driver, whinch, and N2O-bottle-turned fire extinguisher from a Wild Willy. It also has custom rear-view mirrors, mudflaps, snorkel, headlight guards, windshield wipers, and dual exhaust pipe. If you'll looks closely, in the passenger's seat, you'll see Wild Willy's faithful companion! I wired the motors in a series, so the truck is extremely slow, it can't really get over obstacles more than 2-inches tall, and if you think the Avante was fragile, this thing's worse! Yet despite its many drawbacks, I love this truck! For better or worse, this truck performs in an extremely scale manner, and I have high hope for the new Troll tires and more efficient steering linkages just intalled. Nor do I think anyone has ever made a Grasshopper axle steer before. As always, comments are welcome!

Wild Willy, trail truck style! Close up of the custom work. How it used to look

Great work - I love it. Well done on the conversion to the gearbox. I can imagine how difficult it was and I wouldn't even know where to start! Nice to see a truely homemade conversion too. You have much to be proud of.

That's one beast of a truck, first time i see a crawler type of truck based on grasshopper axles, maybe the only one in existence?
