| description | The bug that lead to my stupidly long screen name
Just like my runner clod, this one was once owned by a cousin of mine. he had it for around 14 years before i got hold of it, and 14 years of hard running had taken its toll on the gearbox, chassis and shell!
When i first got hold of it, and ran it for the first time, it always made a crunching sound. push the throttle - CRUNCH-
i didnt think it was a good sign, but being a 13 year old at the time, i wanted to drive it, not take it to bits! so it remained a runner, to the point that the gearbox constantly slipped, and most of the suspension was held together with tape and superglue.
Finally, along came a new PC, and internet access! back then i didnt know anything about vintage tamiya, only that there was a clod, pumpkin and monster beetle in my bedroom. i didnt know about ebay, so vintage spares were impossible for me to find. so i look up tamiya, and find Tamiya Club!
my broken beetle has since gone through a full mechanical restoration (the body was not restored) but everthing on the chassis is either new, or in good used condition. not a broken bit in sight
i've included a pic of what my beetle was looking like before i spent the best part of £50 on new bits - check out the dodgy hybrid conversion, is that maccano and a pumpkin gearbox i see?!
