Thorught I would share with you guys about a years worth of development and changes to my TB01 rally car so that I am now happy with it, and More importantly how to convert from tarmac to rally and back in seconds.

In order to do this upon the tyres which are obvious is using two sets of shocks that can be swapped over instantly on the ball connectors.

The shocks I am using are the stock ones and the CVA ones for the off road and on road sets respectively. Both feature the removal of the internal spacers to the required amount and new end connectors. I have found buggy shocks ends to be ideal for the rally ones and slightly trimmed turnbuckles to be used for the on road shocks.

The shock weight is tamiya yellow soft 200wt and the springs are the progressive medium ones on road. And the Rally ones are from the front of the CC-01 race touareg.

Apart from shocks other items I have found to be useful are more weight in the left hand side of the chassis to weigh out against the battery, Also sitting the rear a little bit lower than the front which with less rear cambre seems to work to reduce the normal TB01 understeer. But that is personal Preference.

I have also found the car more progressive when the shocks are worked to the same angle as can be seen with my mounting positions in the pictures below, Vertical rear shocks can make the rear feel laden and cause understeer to snap oversteer when the rear breaks suddenly. The mounting positions are the same for Tarmac and Rally specs.

Final note it is best to use rims with spokes otherwise stones can get wedged in between the rim and the drive hub causing damage and making you stop, Also watch out for chatter at the top of a UJ which can wear the hub and even jolt out under impact wraping up and stopping the car as well.

What I have done it take a series of picture to show each side of the car and compare them so hopefully it helps someone. Comments and opinions more than welcome and please follow the link below to my Impreza proto which uses this chassis.

Hey thanks for this Ryck! Good tip on the spoke wheels too - My 'OZ' style wheels on my Celica do the same - It's the support fins on the inside that have such a close tolerance to the lower arms. I suppose it's good that the wheels are strong/stiff though.. an acceptable trade off for the occasional rock jam IMO

Hey Ryck, it's me again. This isn't comment for you to post, rather just a read and delete Just wanted to say that I really liked your write-up on the TB01 - good stuff. I also wanted to suggest that you try to break up the text with paragraphs and maybe some spacing. I think it might make your hard work a bit easier to absorb for the more 'casual' reader. By the way, sorry for addressing you by your first name - I just happened to remember it from the forum My name is Steve, nice to meet you!

OK ok - I think you taught me to rely on the email system, lol (more winking, more loling)

gives you paragraphs,
gives you line spacing. <WRC ACTION> uploads the thoughts in yor head to Google so everyone in the world can read it. ( ) -Steve
