Here is my Toyota Tundra truck, one of those models I wasn't going to buy when I saw the box art but then I saw a few custom ones out there and decided I really had to have one, so I've been working on it to look like my old Hilux stadium truck and a little like the Hilux I did a year or so ago (maybe chef bikes is doing one of these to lol) Anyway I used Pearl white, mica red, orange and camel yellow with a few coats of clear overcoat and pactra trim tape for pin stripes. The wheels came from rc4wd in their very generous Christmas giveaway on scale4x4rc.us and the tires are 1.9 rc4wd Tomahawks which have fast become my favorite tire since they are not too soft and hold the weight of a heavy rig like this. Anyway lots more details will come later but I wanted to share what I've been doing and give some ideas etc. Thanks for looking.

4 I have a new favorite 3 speed 1 a few bleeds I hate masking 2 too big for picture box 1 raised the tranny and battery a little 1 1 1 1 1 2

Awesome rig! Looks like something TRD would show at SEMA. The wheels are a perfect match. The paint is retro cool. The flares and snorkel just finish it off!

You are so right with this livery on this truck! The Tundra was very slowly growing on me, but now it happened fast: I like this truck! BTW: dont think i have seen trim tape on hardbody's before but looks good. Some dirt and Wyoworld surrounding and its perfect!

Come on matey...... if you're going to have a snorkel like that, are you going to have exhausts like that??????? Come on, make a man of it!!!! Lol... nah, just kidding, that's a great-looking truck. Gives me some ideas......

adam1973

20-Jan-2009

Looks great Seth BTW, how'd you get the tyres to hold up the truck? I've got a set on my HL and they won't hold the truck's weight. I'm usin Tamiya 2-piece 5 spoke wheels with HPI Geolander inserts narrowed as well.

amigamad

20-Jan-2009

Very nice , i never liked this one much when it was first released but it has grown on me and there are now a few that i like .This is my favorite tundra so far .

Wyoming

20-Jan-2009

wow how can I respond to that, thanks you fellers. I'll try to answer the questions. The tires are stock RC4wd with the inserts so unless they changed the rubber compound to a softer type (which they have done before) they hold the trucks weight fine, yes SEMA is an aftermarket tuning trade show in the US every year. The Tundra frame comes with two mounting points for the tranny and battery which are higher, I also trimmed the four legs on the skid plate support so it could sit higher.

pastimesteve

20-Jan-2009

That is freaking incredible Seth! You've set the bar very, very high. Congrats on an excellent model.

The Hobbymaster

20-Jan-2009

Hi Seth, You have hit a home run with your great looking Tundra, I have to say the Tundra is one of the best bodies Tamiya have made for a 3 speed.
I love mine to bits..... if I had know you had a Tundra we could have had a build off ( just for fun) I had to keep mine fairly stock for the review but then I'm going to take it up a gear !!!
you have me thinking about fender flares and snorkel anyway very well done, top work again. cheers
Ian

Wyoming

20-Jan-2009

Thanks Ian, and Steve This one is also very stock I just built it from the box adding only bearings, flares, snorkel and wheels and tires all the subtle mods are very easy for anyone to do, the paint job is what I was focused on, I still have more details planned like a spare tire holder in back, working lights, etc.

The Hobbymaster

20-Jan-2009

Seth, where did the flares, snorkel come from??
They would fit in with my Mountain Rescue look.
did you mount the body on the higher mounting hole as well as the centre box, battery holder?
cheers
Ian

Wyoming

20-Jan-2009

Rpphobby.com sells the flares Ian, they are made by a guy called lowslowtj on scale4x4rc.us

Wyoming

20-Jan-2009

OH forgot to answer, the body is stock location but I raised the tranny and battery box, I have to remove cab to get out battery but I just charge it in place.

The Hobbymaster

20-Jan-2009

Thanks Seth your a star, I think its time to get some dust on the tyres??? cheers Ian

The Hobbymaster

20-Jan-2009

Seth, I'm doing the same with my battery, its no big deal as long as you dont drop the cab lol. cheers Ian

Wyoming

20-Jan-2009

And don't forget and pick it up by light bar either lol!

def4x4

20-Jan-2009

I guess I did something right, thank you very much for all the nice comments. I was caught off guard by the response.

TA-Mark

21-Jan-2009

Great work Seth! Makes you want to be 6' tall so you can hop in and drive off in it. Have you gotten it dirty yet?

Wyoming

21-Jan-2009

I'll run it soon, but the paint hasn't fully cured yet

Moondoggie

21-Jan-2009

Dun, dun, duunnnn... Your planning on jumping that off the roof of the barn like we did to that nikko right?

Wyoming

21-Jan-2009

yup on fire, lol!

mor10retro

21-Jan-2009

Great work Seth! Realy love the paint job and overall idea of making a baja styled Thundra. The black arches and the rims look great too. Only thing I don't like with this kit is the huge side mirrors...they obvious needs to be big, but do they need to be that huge? Maybe they looks better in real life than on pics.

Wyoming

21-Jan-2009

They seem big in pics probably because of angle but American pickups usually have huge mirrors for pulling trailers and such (and getting knocked of by trees) , I've walked into a few of them over the years in parking lots

mor10retro

21-Jan-2009

LOL! Watch your step! :-D

Old Skool

22-Jan-2009

Looks great Seth I was thinking about one in the same scheme and you proved it would look super

GreenMan

23-Jan-2009

Really awesome Tundra you make there, Seth!!!

Crash Cramer

23-Jan-2009

Hey Seth, while you are watching out that you don't run into a mirror, don't forget to watch out for the GIANT trailer ball hitch. Those are not the kindest to shins in parking lot situations. O U C H

31-Jan-2009

That is Very, Very Nice!

11-Feb-2009

WOW Wyoming - i nearly hated that model, but yours is awesome. you even can change ***** to gold. you did a real great job as usual

Wyoming

11-Feb-2009

dang, thanks fellers and to think I wasn't very nice to this kit when it got announced but I am so glad I gave it a chance anyway

chef_bikes

11-Feb-2009

I missed that one! Looks great - the colours look better on this than on the Hilux. No, I've not bought a Tundra yet - I still haven't finished my Hilux Highlift. Cracking job matey - well done.

Wyoming

11-Feb-2009

Thanks Pete, yeah I think so too, Seeing the SEMA show tundra is what made me try this color pattern again. I really want to see your Hilux finished thats one of my favorite trucks out there

pagedm_f350

13-Feb-2009

Hey Seth, what is the viewed count on this entry so far sure is a stunner, this deserves to be in the stars s.i.g.

Wyoming

13-Feb-2009

It has 1697 views as i right this, but my orange hilux original posting has about 5680 which is the most viewed thing in my showroom followed by my Blue CR-01 with 4300 so this has a ways to go to catch it in views lol!

13-Feb-2009

12-Sep-2009

Not into the look of these but youve added some cool to it all the comments are well deserved.

Wyoming

12-Sep-2009

Thanks guys, this truck is actually only a body set right now since she got cannibalized for other more pressing builds but when i get a few extra bucks I'll buy another kit and rebuild her.

27-Mar-2010

Wow seth, this is one sweet tundra. it took an hour to read through all the comments. fantastic work as always. keep it up.

Wyoming

27-Mar-2010

thanks Mark, I really need to put this one back together since its actually just a body set wrapped up in bubble wrap right now...the danger of being a Semi-shelf Queen in my shop is that you gets parts taken off for active builds and this guy happened to get stripped down to just a frame and body when I needed axles, driveshafts etc for other projects. I'll just have to buy a new Tundra kit and stick this body on it though

Aussie Top Force

15-Aug-2010

Great looking truck. I've been eyeing the Tundra off for a month or two now. Your truck has inspired me to make this car my first R/C Car purchase in 15-years!
